I recently aquired a super redhawk in .44mag
It has a redfield scope on it currently and I find it difficult to use , do any of you hand gunners have a suggestion on a better setup red dot , halo's , steel sights? whats working for you
I am not a serious hand gun hunter just thought it would be interesting to give it a try.

I have a plain Redhawk in 44Mag. It is by far, the most accurate handgun I own. Open sights but I have thought about putting some kind of optics on it, from time to time. Seems like Burris used to make a handgun scope with extra long eye relief, but I'm really not up to speed on all that may be available?

Paul, I think the best set up for eyes our age, is an aperature sight. If your using that revolver for packing/hunting, a scope is not the way to go in my opinion. Check out Warren Custom Outdoor, they stick the "Ruger One Hole", for 25 bucks, you'll get a rugged, dependable sight set up.

you hit on the biggest part of my problem I can see the steel sight clearly with my reading glasses on but not necessarily the target. or I can take my glasses off and see for miles but not the sights. I like the system from warren out doors I,ll have to figure out how to check one out to see if it will work for me. Oh its a bitch getting old! I only got one thing left that works as advertised...

I've tried handguns with scopes and they are difficult to use. The lower the power the better, and of course lots of eye relief needed. I would look for the lowest powered Leupold pistol scope I could find. Otherwise a redot, EOTec, or trijicon reflex might just be the ticket. I'm not sure which one would hold up the best under heavy recoil, that would be my primary concern.

Paul, I have the warren one hole sight on my .357 mag and a 2x leupold on my 7x30 watters hand cannon. The next time you are in the area we can take them out to see what you think. I don't think the one hole iron sight will help with your condition.

I just spent 6 hours with 4 Webelos Scouts doing a four mile hike and various activities. Watching those young guys run around, let me know for sure all I have left is first gear and heavy feet.
