Since I'm hunting with a Ruger M-77 .22Mag, I've decided to get a laser rangefinder. Clearcuts are 300+/-yds, but my shots will be 150yds max.
Cabelas has the Bushnell Yardage Pro Scout 450 on sale. Anyone have any experience with this Rangefinder? Pros and Cons wanted.

If its anything like my yardage pro 1000, it will be good to about 2/3 the listed distance, so about 300 yards

One of the perks of guiding hunters all fall is that I get to see and play with about every kind of equipment imaginable. As for rangefinders, I rate the Bushnells at the very bottom of the list. The Nikons seem a little better. I got to play with a new Leupold last year, and it was fair. The Leica is by far the best for the money. Thats what I use and reccomend. I have the 1200 scan model.

Since you bring it up, Cal. You do represent a valuable resource, for such things. Had not considered that particular angle......Foxpro, eh? What gun do you shoot? [Smile]

Good hunting. LB

Just funning ya, Partner. But, you are in a unique position to evaluate gear, that's the truth.

Cal,
I agree, I handnt had much of a chance to check any others out. Had a chance to get this one at a good price.

It sure doesnt seem to be the ticket for anything way out there, but at normal shooting ranges off a deer stand around here, its not bad. Seems to be pretty close. Ive checked deer and then fences and trees and such around the deer and it was pretty damn close. But, its supposed to be for 1000 yards. Im talkin 200-400.

I got a tree line north of my house that I know for a fact is 880 yards. It will tell me anywhere from 800-900 yards at any given time.

After I bought it, I had a chance to check out Leica. I agree, it was mucho better.

Thanks for the replies! I do understand that non-reflective objects may not register as far, so the distance to animals may have to be computed with a solid object nearby.
With the short range of the .22WMR, I don't think I'll need the high-dollar end of the spectrum, just enough to insure a fatal shot at a known distance.
The .270 is another matter and since the fur isn't worth taking (SC) it really won't matter if the exit holes are big or not.
I've ordered the unit in question. Due for delivery Wed/5/25. Another toy to play with!!!!

Yep Leonard, I have had guys bring every gadget and type of firearm imaginable. You name it, and I've probably had someone bring it. 80% of the stuff they lug out here with them is of little or no use, but clever marketing schemes sell stuff by the boat load.
The guys that I like the best are the ones that bring simple good clothes, so they stay warm and dry. Good shoes, again warm dry and comfortable. Simple good glass in both binos and rifle scope, and a bolt gun in a medium (.270 - 25-06) caliber for deer and antelope.
Things I like least are Ultra magnums, Compact binos, muzzle breaks, rubber boots (worse yet cowboy boots).

It appears we see eye to eye, Cal. No surprise.

Good hunting. LB
