I had a straight 7.5X Leupold on my AR15 and today it is in a box headed for Oregon. I picked up my rifle yesterday and something rattled so i shook it to figure out where the noise was coming from and it happened to be my scope so I looked through it and sure enough a internal lense had come loose and the crosshairs were broken out. And after only about 20 years of use. I couldn't believe that it would give up on me so soon. That has been one of the few Leupolds I've had that would actually hold a zero and it has functioned flawlessly for years. Well I guess we will see what the boys at Beaverton can do with it. It's a model that they quit making years ago. It has been on more rifles than I can count.

Since they don't make that one anymore, they might just replace it with a new/current model.

Hey, Cal. I have one of those. Same deal, it's been on so many rifles, I couldn't tell you how many or which ones. I like it, simple, uncomplicated. Looks almost exactly like a 3X9 without the power ring. I bet mine is well over twenty years old. If I ever had to send it in, I wouldn't want a trade....okay; maybe a LPS? [Smile]

Good hunting. LB

I'm like you Leonard, I don't know what they could replace it with. They really don't have anything close anymore. I guess a VXII in a 3X9 maybe. They don't make a straight 8 or straight 10 anymore. I've got one of each of those also. A straight 6 would be going down hill but would work in a pinch. I used to have two of the straight 7.5's, but I traded one of them off. Never shoulda done that.

I have a fixed 8 Leupold on my main calling rifle. Man I sure would hate to have anything happen to it. Some people think that it's too much scope for calling but it sure works for me. Just set the eye relief to where the gun comes up and the sight picture is always there. No back and forth looking for the crosshairs.

thats were one of those relfex sights would come in handy, eye relief is not a factor. I hear they produce a hologram of a red dot in front of the shooter, Fastest aquisition sight in the world, (so they claim). I've never seen one or shot one. But would love to talk to someone who has.

Good luck with your scope, Cal

Barndog,
I've got a Holosight that I have a love hate relationship with. I keep putting it on and taking it off my AR. It is great for super fast target acquisition and tracking moving targets. The problem is with battery life. It always seems to fail at the wrong time. Mine doesn't have a low battery indicator so when it goes it just goes. Also, my eyes aren't what they used to be, and that wasn't that good to begin with so for anything past 100 yards I've got to pass on the shot. They have a 2X model now with 4 times the battery life that I just may have to get. Man, I need second job.

Coonass,
I went Burris a few years ago. They are great if you stay Signature series or above. I have had better luck with them holding zero and the optics are good. I doubt if I will ever buy another Leupold. I got a new Vari X III 4.5x14 from a hunter as a tip last year and I'll keep it on something, but if it's my money it will be a Burris.
