No, I have not examined one, but in looking at the latest Midsouth catalog, I notice where Zeiss and Kahles are selling one inch tube scopes in a competitive $ range, possibly targeting the Leupold Vari X III line?
Anybody out there have input? I'm interested.
Good hunting. LB

Hi Leonard, I bought a 4.5x14-44mm conquest for my sporterweight rem.700-22-250.It is a very nice scope,I have a new nikon monarch 5.5x16.5-44mm that's not nearly the scope the zeiss is.Although it only cost 60% of the zeiss.I looked through many scopes lately and couldn't be happier with the zeiss, the side focus is worth every penny. It just has that certain feel with the power ring and focus. I read a sporting goods store chain in Kalifornia sells them for $349--3x9 that is.That's what I intend to put on my dream gun>CZ 221 fireball.Give one a looksee..Mike

Leonard,
I've got two. Both are 3x9. I put one on my 7 mag. And I just put one on my new coyote rifle. They rae equal to or better than the leopold that came off the 7 mag. Eye relief is better. Power ring is stiff as hell but that is an indication of a well made scope. I have noticed absolutely no change of impact point at the range.
IMHO the best scope for the money

Leonard, everyones eyes and perceptions are different. When I replaced my stolen calling rifle 2 years ago I spent some time at The Outdoorsman handling and looking through the scopes I could afford in a side by side comparison. I settled on the VariX III 3.5 X 10 over the Conquest 3 X 9 because it was superior in all aspects, to my perceptions. You just have to check them out side by side to see what your eyes prefer.

i have both zeiss & kahles and they are worth the extra money.the new leupolds have given me to many problems.the extra coyotes paid for them.my group does a lot of stooting and we have had 6 different leupolds that would not hold a zero. i hunted at night with one of my kahles scopes and it has been banged around with out missing a beat. they are great scopes you can't go wrong with one.

Yeah, I agree with you, lyote. I have a 3X12X56 Kahles, and it is my best night scope.
However, this particular application is a little different, and I still think I'm getting the Zeiss, just to try it, if nothing else.

You can't go wrong with your choice Leonard. The specific qualities that make a great piece of glass, go beyond perception, and has nothing to do with your eyes or mine, but are indeed measurable. Things such as eye relief, exit pupil, brightness, repeatable adjustments and clarity can all be quantified. Most of the human perception factor becomes apparent when digging into your wallet to pay for the damned thing:) Thats where we fudge and convince ourselves scope A is just as good to our eye as scope B. I make this bold pronouncment while admitting sheepishly.... got a bunch of those "looks just as good to me" scopes on top of rifles too.

Studying the various options available from U.S. Optics has befuddled my mind. Not fair. LB

I finally broke down and bought the Conquest from Midway. I got the 4.5X14X44 in stainless.
Actually, it's pretty nice. I mounted it a while back, but haven't got around to going to the range. I think this weekend?
It has the side parallax adjustment, and cripes, you sure need it. Lots of movement of the crosshairs at anything but the dialed range. There must be some battlesite setting I can use? Meanwhile, I doubt that I'll be using it much for coyotes?
The optics are very clear. It's going to be a rockchuck rig, anyway. I expect it will perform acceptably, but we will have to wait and see.
Good hunting. LB
