I have been thinking of building an AR version in either 243 or 6.5 Creedmoor. Any of you guys run one or have experience with one. They do seem pretty heavy, but most AR's do.

What's the application for something like that?

As to your choices, I can see strong preference for the ubiquitous 243W, simple and uncomplicated.

On the other hand the Creedmor is designed to handle the VLD bullets for long range banging at steel.

So, again, what's your app?

Have to agree with Lb....the 6.5 will give mag space for higher bc bullets(more so than the 243). The 243 will be reduced in mag space for the higher bc bullets, but does offer a much greater selection of bullets. I vote you go full custom and build a 6cm and get the best of both worlds....hows that for help narrowing it down?? Besides, Lapua is coming out with CM brass with a small primer....of course at the price, you may not want to 'sling' that stuff.

Purpose? Ah Hell, I dunno. I guess mostly just goofing around perhaps banging steel. The 6.5 CM will definitely work better with AR mag constraints. Otherwise I would probably go 260. Though the 243 will take you to 1000 if wanted.

Guess I am pretty much throwing it out there, seeing how chimes in.

If you're serious, keep an eye out on SnipersHide classifieds.
GAP built alot of 6Creed AR-10s in the past, and they are a fairly common commodity in the Used market. I almost got a GAP-10 built, back in the day. Considering the recent political climate in my fascist state, opting to stick with bolt guns actually worked out for the better...

Build a sick bolt gun, Dan!

....but, he already has lots of bolt guns. In fact, why he "needs" an AR10, nobody knows? He should probably just get married, that might trim his acquisition budget, somewhat? As it is, why not be safe and get both, Dan S?

Just trying to help, these little problems can keep you up all night, should I, would I, could I? Whisper, Blackout, Beowulf, WinMag, etc.

Get both what, 243 and 6.5 Creedmoor, or AR10 and a wife? [Smile] Since when has buying guns ever been about need? <LAFF'n>

Wife, nah, too old for that. I don't need an industrial strength relationship.

Fred, I've been looking at some of GAP's rifles.
Just got a 6 BR Norma back from Long rifles today. A Trued Rem sporter, with a Brux spout, Mcmillan handle. I know it won't do anything my 6XC wont do, but I wanted a 6BR repeater.

My gun club is rumored to be expanding the 600 yard range to 1200 yards. Hell, that 600 will humble me on windy days, I have never shot at 1000 or further.

Very cool, Dan!

Man, I bet that 6BR will tear it up @ 600yds! Chad's crew up there sure seem to build a nice rifle. Their bedding jobs alone are something to ooogle at...

Good luck & have fun!!!

DanS has all the earmarks of a true addict. Truthfully, how many safes do you own? Just "record keeping" alone, is a major undertaking. If a man owns rifles that have not been wrung out, he owns too many.

Personally, I couldn't stand it, if I didn't have every rifle dialed in....and this is why I'm pretty much max'ed out. Any more rifles, at this point and I would need to cull something else. I mean, come to think of it, there are collectors of factory guns, and probably never saw a handload? I can't relate to those people. The only rifle I own that doesn't also have dies is a 1883 Marlin in 44-40, never fired it. Why do I have it, you ask? I have never been able to answer that question satisfactorily, it's a wall hanger candidate.

I think we have drilled down on this question sufficiently, get the 6.5.

Good hunting. El Bee

PS Hell, get two, they're cheap, and you only live once.
