If you were going to get a new one, what would it be ?
From what I hear the new Rockchucker isn't what the originals were, still decent though ?
Thought about a co-ax just not sure after reading some reviews if a guy like me non-benchrest is going to gain much for the extra $150-ish ?
There is nothing wrong with my old press, an old Lee cast..Just thinking with the move and all, probably going to Home Depot later and get materials and build a new bench. Inside the house for a change !! Might be time to update things a little.

Can't help much, I'm still using the Pacific I got for Christmas when I was 13 years old.
But if an older Rockchucker is better than a new one (I've no idea either way), why not just buy an older used one? Can't be that hard to find?

I wouldn't be afraid of a new Rockchucker, or a used one, if you can find it.
The CoAx press, seems to me is overhyped, a little overpriced but otherwise, many happy users.
I do not like Lee products. Some of their hand tools are fine.
Actually, I am not very interested in the Hornady line, either. The ability to snap in dies rather than screw them in, not a big deal, IMO. And, I'm not a big fan of their dies, either
I think RCBS makes good stuff.
If you are a volume user, Dillon's should be probably your first choice. Think lots of pistol
Redding makes good stuff, as does Forster.
It's just hard to go wrong.

Sounds like you nailed my thought's Leonard.
I'm not hell bent on a chucker @ all, just seems many out there like the old ones. Oh' well.
It's funny though. I work with a guy that has a NIB from about twenty years ago, he was going to start reloading & never has yet. Won't part with it.
To echo you Leonard. I'm not a big fan of Lee either, even though this press works fine it bugs me. Weird huh ?
(edit) the die bushing or whatever from Hornaday don't impress me much either. No biggie from my standpoint.

I just replaced an RCBS Jr with a brand new Rockchuker. I love it. I see no drawbacks to it what so ever.
Fact is I couldn't really find fault with the Jr either. I just wanted a beefier press. I bought the Jr in Alaska when my old CH press developed a crack. Being made of pot metal it couldn't be repaired.

I would get another 550 Dillon. If you don`t need a progressive press, or I guess even if your looking for 1, I would recommend you hit some gun shows. I have seen used ones from very used to new and some at very good prices.

I have an original Rockchucker and a newer one as well, no drawbacks to either for me. I also have a couple LEE's.
The lee stuff is a bit cheap and cheesy but I have to admit, I have loaded a LOT of rounds on those things over the years, and if you set them up just right they work pretty well.
Sort of funny story I probly told before...years ago, my then calling partner was loading up some 22-250's for us. We both shot the same load, and I trusted his loading skills. We went out calling the next morning, in an obviously untouched area at the time with lots of stupid coyotes, super excited... and right off the bat we call up 4 coyotes hauling ass straight to us. I stop the lead pair about 40-50 yards or so from us and attempted to shoot him in the chest, straight on. I shoot, and they just stood there. I jacked in another round and shot at the other one..they just stood there..2 shots right in their face. 1 second later they bolt, and we both start shooting and dont hit anything. Im thinking my shooting really sucks today...maybe Ill get it together on the next stand.
The next stand...same damn thing...quad coming in, awsome! We start shooting...nothing down. We sit there, looked at each other in amazement. Im like "what the hell just happened?" My bud says "I dont know but Im hearing a weird sound when you shoot...I think its your bullets". He goes on to say he swears the bullets are making a loud "whizzing" noise. So we pick a spot and shoot a few rounds, I back off from him so I can see if I can hear anything when he shoots...sure enough, I hear what he described...loud, high pitched whiz. I set up a piece of cardboard I happened to have in my truck, and shoot a couple rounds into it. Had a hard time even hitting the thing at 30-40 yards! Finally make a couple hits and walk up and look at it.. weird tears and keyholes.
I asked him if he did anything different when loading our stuff, and he says "well, I used my new Lee factory crimp die".
Long story short, not real sure what he did, but man those bullets were going every where! Luck we didnt kill ourselves probly.

If I had to replace my current loader, which is an antique Lee 3 hole turret press, it would be with a Rockchucker.
Before we got married, my wife, but then my fiancé, asked what I wanted for Christmas in 1982. I put out two options...an RCBS press, or a Lee 3 hole turret press. I think she looked at the price of both and bought me the less expensive press.
It has served me well over the years, but I am not a high volume loader, either.

Every time I have wandered into the world of "crimping" it has been dealing with the byproducts, for lack of a better word?
One time, I remember a failure to chamber, while out in the weeds. The solution, an expedient was to just flip those problem cartridges and keep the ones that worked. Would you believe it? A guy I know from the club actually found those discarded cartridges, gathered them up in a baggie and gave them to me!
This occurred in an extremely remote area that I was known/rumored to frequent, and I was also "known" to owning a 6MM Remington, so....it HAD to be my lost stuff. I think I seemed/acted grateful? But, the guy was pretty pleased with himself, having discovered one of my secret hunting spots. THIS IS A TRUE STORY !
Anyway, one thing that always benefits is to try chambering all crimped rounds. The main thing I "learned" over the years is, crimping has very little value, assuming you turn your necks properly and use the correct bushing; again, this is using chamber type seating dies and an arbor press/not always, but
Pistol rounds is the exception, of course. You pretty much have to do it right, or else.
Yes, crimping rifle cartridges where the bullets have a cannelure might be ok but how often do you load those type of bullets? Yeah, Africa comes to mind. Another clusterfuck. Bottom line, friends don't let friends crimp rifle ammo.

I don't get why Oregon doesn't need revenue from sales tax? Everybody else needs it, 8, 9, 10%.
Oh, while I am at it; explain why I can't pump my own gas in Oregon when every other state in the country not only ALLOWS it, but if you don't pump your own gas, you won't get any!

I'm confused by the whole sales tax deal myself. My understanding is Oregon charges more income and property tax to make up the difference ?
I need to compare taxes with my brother sometime. Yet that also get's dicey as different counties in Oregon have different property tax scales.
Example here in Idaho I paid ~$1100 a year in property taxes on a home valued @ 125k in Canyon county. Here in Payette county, my estimated taxes for 2016 are ~$600 on a value of 185k.
As always I'm a bit confused ?

I think Oregon and someplace back east Vermont ? are the only states you can't pump your own gas.

Lone howl: I saw the same thing once when guy tried shooting 9mm in a 40 caliber. My guess is either the bullet was coming apart or he over crimped to the point he was significantly undersized.

Ha! There was an item on the news about a month ago. Some guy had a (I think?) 38 revolver and some 9mm cartridges. They wouldn't it fit in the cylinder so he used a hammer. Set off two if them one in his hand and the other in his leg, thigh? I think he will be a candidate for next year's Darwin Awards. He will win, for sure if he set them off, one at a time?

Washington has no personal income tax and Oregon has no sales tax. The legislatures of both states are constantly trying to implement the missing tax in their respective states.
We have a referendum process here in Oregon. Several years ago the state passed a gasoline tax hike and a higher registration fee on vehicles. They got petitions signed and both were voted down.
As far as not being able to pump your own gas it's a jobs thing. When I fort started driving down here to see my future wife gas in Oregon was more expensive but now it's higher in Washington. I know at my advanced age and physical condition and the way it rains here I like them pumping my gas.
BTW, Washington raised vehicle registration fees sky high. Voters rejected it big time.
Oregon has high income and property taxes.

In The People's Republik, the only thing I am grateful for is Prop 13. Otherwise, last time I looked my gas is/was $1.25 higher than (for instance) Texas.

The price of gasoline is a total mystery to me? Imagine if you paid $12 for a gallon of milk and the next week it was $2.99? Where does all that friggin' money go to? Who makes all that profit?
