The first rifle I had built on a model 98 action had been resting in the gun cabinet for several years. It has a rather whippety pencil barrel that is chambered in .25-06. I recently decided to treat the old rifle to a release from the cabinet. I mounted a new 3x-9x40mm Nikon Buckmasters scope on it, and loaded up a few rounds of ammo. I chose 46 grains of H-4831 behind a 90 grain Sierra HPBT "Game King" for this test. Below, you will see a photo of the results I enjoyed this morning. I did adjust the windage knob one click to the right before driving back home. Grandpa and the old Mauser are both a little bit happier now. [Wink]

That should work.

H4831 is a great powder. I have been using R-22 and a 96 grain bullet for the past several years, in my Ackley.

Good hunting. LB

Leonard,
I can't find any 4831 powder right now because everyone is out of stock. The can of H4831 that I used in above test has been sitting in my cabinet for several years. I know what you mean about the Alliant "reloder" powders too. My .257 Ackley loves their R-19. I ordered a pound of R-17 the other day, and plan to try it in another .25-06 Mauser I have. The FN Mauser is being transformed into a heavy barreled 6mm Remington right now, and I think maybe the RL 17 behind a Speer 85 grain Hot core should be an eye opener in that rifle. I am a gun nut.
