I have 2 magazines (clips...whatever I don't know the difference) for my .17 HMR. The first 6 shells go in pretty smooth but the 7th shell is a booger to get in there. I've noticed that the rim of the 7th shell sometimes dents the side of the 6th shell. Man, I hate pushing the rim of a rim-fire down on the side of another shell.

I know that gunpowder explodes by a catalyst, heat, or pressure. Right? It probably couldn't fire, Could it?

If I recall correctly, Loco, even a rimfire should have a small dollup of shock-sensitive silver nitrate or another similar compound in the base of the cartridge that reacts to the impact of the firing pion, thus igniting the powder. Crimping the side of the casing shouldn't be an issue.

What do they put in primers that explodes with the striking of the firing pin?

I guess I'd better be buying up some of this pasture ground since it's going to be beachfront property in such a short time. Seeings as how we have another big winter storm heading for us tonight, and since I'm still getting ice out of and off of everything, I think we could use just a tad bit of Algore around here. Of course, I sure didn't see that bastard helping move tree branches from the ice storm last week. [Frown]

I think I need to get an after market mag for my Savage 17 HMR because they leave a lot to be deired. They feed terribly and I have more than once gone to chamber a round and had the bolt simply roll over the case, pushing the round down and having nothing in the chamber. This is the only gun that I have ever had that problem with.

I also have a savage in 17hmr with several mags but have not experienced feeding problems. can be frustrating I am sure.

I have found that the SS Savage HMR mags foul less often that the OEM ones. I have 2 OEM's and 3 after market. The OEM's will only hold 5 rds. The after market's will hold 6 rds. After use, flush with solvent and add a few drops of oil. The spring has less tendency to hang up if you do.
