I'm looking to purchase an autoloader 'value shotgun' - 12ga, 3.5" and have done some research on the Remington SPR 453 (essentially a Russian Baikal) and the Mossburg 935. Has anyone had any experience with SPR or have an opinion on either? Remingtion SPR

I have no hands on experience with either, but I know that Sly Dog once told me to stay away from that Mossy 935. He bought several for his youth hunter programand ended up going to the 835 instead. Their 835 pump gun is a ball buster and will go thru hell and high water, but the 935 has some design defect that he said required constant replacement of one particular part. Can't recall which part, but I know it renders the gun useless when it goes. FWIW.

I think that a 3½ inch chamber has limited application unless you are using steel shot. A three inch shell packs a full two ounce load of lead shot. The 3½ doesn't do better, unless I'm mistaken? I use and prefer the 835 for coyotes, but I usually shoot 2 3/4" buckshot or 3" #4 buck. I have some 3½ dead coyote, but I don't know why? Never used it?
What it does have is a back bored barrel and I think it has value for shaping the charge with the larger pellet sizes? Just an opinion?

Thanks for the opinions, they help. I haven't considered the 3" vs. 3.5" difference...always assumed more was significantly better. I will look further into this thought...could be cheaper sticking with 3"????
The SPR is very interesting... mostly good reviews in the various forums. 'Rowdy' chokes seem available for it (e.g. Terror Choke). I'll forward the SPR link to my wife for her Christmas list. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

OK, I've continued checking blogs and boards and it seems the SPR 453 (Baikal) is getting good reviews. Check this testing video: Baikal Test. I'm gonn'a check one out and see what it feels like.

The Winchester 3.5" #4 buck is 2.5 oz and kicks like a stallion. Along with a few boxes of Dead Coyote 3.5" I put about 290 rounds through an O/U last year and another 150+ through a different O/U and an expensive autoloader this season. Just beware, coyote loads are not for the timid of shoulder. They kick about the same as a scoped .338 or .375 and knock most guys back 6-8".
I never gave a damn. Until last month. Running down a coyote, reloading, and closing the bolt on the softest shooting autoloader made, the gun went off one-handed and broke my finger.
Both the guns you mentioned look like good ones for the price. But I'd probably reccommend you stick with the 3" ammo.

Wow, broken finger. I like the idea of going with 3", but continue to get mixed opions about the benefits of 3.5". I'll budget for the 3.5" gun, with the idea to pull back to 3" as I gain experience. Thx.
