I am thinking about getting a new 22-250.I currently shoot a savage and its a good rifle and shoots well for me.but I got the bug to get something new and saw the Howa axiom looked kinda interesting but I know nothing about Howa rifles.either that or upgrade to a savage with the accu-trigger.anybody know anything about the Howa.

All I can tell you is I have one, and I like it, triggers fine, accuracy is minute of coyote.

MOC, minute of coyote.
Thats what matters.
Never had a Howa, but I hear they are fine rifles. Im currently hooked on CZ. Something about the way they fit me and just everything about them I like. Except that high bolt handle, forcing high scope rings.

I also own a Howa. I did put a timney in mine, the stock trigger wouldn't stay crisp. The stock on mine was a piece of junk. I finally stiffened it up with a large quantity of marinetex. Mine too shoots well now.

Is it just me; or are they as heavy as a boat anchor? they must have lots of meat in the actions, for to my mind they are pretty hefty feeling.

Thanks for the input guys. I think the Howa is a no . Checking in here and other places they seem to have bad stocks questionable triggers and they are far too heavy. hope they shoot well otherwise they dont seem to have a bunch goin for them.

Paul, as to the stock, I don't know where mine is, having put the action in a McMillen a long time ago. And, that should say something about how I value it, in the first place. The factory trigger is excellent, breaks at less than a pound, better than my Model 700s. The action is the same as a Weatherby Vanguard and it is not nearly as heavy as a CZ, for instance. Mine has a varmint weight barrel, and accuracy is about on par with a Ruger 77.
It's not a bad rifle, at all, and they are priced competitively, about like a Savage.
Now, the new package rifles I see advertized, combo deal with a cheap scope mounted, don't know a thing about them? Mine is a S&W Model 1500, but it's a Howa.

Im not an experienced shooter/laoder /ballistics guy and wanted something that was pretty fair out of the box without having to figure out what I need to do to make it fun and accurate. several poeple have stated that the Howa forestock needed reinforcing and some had trigger problems. maybe what I am looking for can only be found in a cusotm built rifle that can consistanly shoot well with factory loads.
any suggestions.
Thanks

That's what mine is, Paul. 22-250. I just can't agree with what you have been told, none of it jives with my experience. Like for instance, that Weatherby Vanguard is a decent rifle, near as I can tell. And, the triggers are very good, based on the one I have, it sure doesn't need an aftermarket trigger. Maybe you should take a look, hands on and see if you like it. I'm not going to say you are getting bogus info, but I can't agree, nonetheless? Tell you what, I'm not interested at all, in selling mine.

Hey Paul, where is the sportsmans whorehouse???
I need to look into some new kitty calls...
Ruger makes a good 22-250, mine shoots hand loads and factory loads MOC.

Weve got a couple of out here but as usual they dont have the Howa in stock.only had them in .223 or .308 tha guy at the gun counter said I should try Cabelas(in a whisper).

I did some more research and there are a lot of people getting great out of the box performance from the m-1500 and really love the rifle its seems the stock problems are limited to the axiom varmint model.they make one with a houge stock . I looked at the models they had in stock and the actions wre very nice at least to this amature's eyes.and seem very well made.
p.s. canine I lovingly refer to the warehouse as the worehouse be cause I can never get out with my wallet intact
