I have been considering the purchase of a Browning A bolt "micro hunter" in .243 Winchester. This rifle would be used for a light weight carry rifle for coyote calling. I would likely try the new 55 grain ballistic tip, factory ammo in this rig. Now this rifle has a short, 20" whippety barrel, but rifle is advertised as glass bedded and free floated. Do you guys think this rifle would shoot well? Opinions regarding quality of "A bolt" rifles?

I have never warmed up to them. One thing that bothers me is the 60º bolt lift; less leaverage on stiff loads.

I never even thought about the less leverage thing. I just edited my first post. My fingers typed .243 Remington before my brain kicked in during lunch. I just KNEW that one of my friends would remind me that it is "Winchester", .243 "Winchester! Hoooo boy it is fun getting old.

I have glassbed 3 whippety barrel winchesters .300 mag, .270 and another winchester in 270 weatherby chamber they all responded well, but I bedded them in the action and their entire barrel lenght, so I cant say how the folks did it at Winchester probably just the action and 3 to four inches of the barrel they should work good though. Ive done partials too with good results.
I haven't heard of winchester doing glassbed jobs for their line up maybe their custom dept does.

The rifle I amlooking at is Browning A bolt, "micro hunter". It is the caliber that is .243 Winchester. I have a question for you concerning the full length bedding that you have done. How many pounds of upward pressure (if any) did you use? I have built pressure points under the forearm on a couple of rifles. After applying the glass in forearm, did you have rifle hanging by the sling swivels with a weight on the barrel before tightening the action screws?

I basically do a full bed, then free float the barrel. I dont fuss with all that upward pressure stuff. Thats just a band-aid in my opinion.
I misunderstood what you were talking about but it doesn't matter that short barrel should be stiff enough the whole idea is to dampen the vibes anyway. With a good bed job it will do just that.
I use surgical tubing and cris-cross tightly and tuck the tag ends where I can around the action only. No suspending anything.

I have a browning A-bolt stalker in .243 with BOSS and like it very much. I have been able to tune most factory loads into about 1 MOA and most premium factory loads into .75 MOA including the 55 grain. Just picking the one factory round I'm not sure what you will get but if you'll handload for it or try a few factory loads I bet it will shoot sub minute for you. They make a pretty good rifle.
