Bought this about a year ago. Shoots good.

Heres the mission

You can remove handle and install a scope.

But what I really need to know is what commercially available HUNTING round could I shoot thru this thing that will kill coyotes at 200 yards.....reliably.

Don't need fur friendly.

1 in 9 twist (r)

Depends who you ask. Standing still, rock solid rest, might dump them reliably out to 250? Hard to say with a 1-9" twist, if you can stabilize a heavier bullet, that would be the way to go, like the Sierra 63gr. semipointed? That's a hell of a coyote bullet.

No "expert", here LOL! Just my opinion.

I've used Winchester 55gr Silver Ballistic Tip & Black Hills 60gr Ballistic Tip. In my BM 1:9 twist 20" V-Match. Both shot basically the same. 1" bench-group @ 100yrds, on a good day.

50gr of either bullit, tend to explode close to the surface, out there aways. But, the Win. tends to penetrate deeper. Than the Black Hills, in my experience.

Out of those two bullit's. I liked the Win. better. "Very few" of the coyotes, I've shot with "any" .223. Dropped[dead] in their tracks, after the 1st solid [chest]hit.

Of course, they were past the 150yd mark.[More like 200-250yrds].

IMHO, the .223 is a decent 200yrd coyote cal. Even with that said. They still, often recovered & went again.

The only factory center fire rounds I ever shoot, were one's a found cheap and I shoot them up just for the brass.

I probably haven't shot a factory made center fire round at a coyote in years.

I'd stay away from anything FMJ, everything else should work fine.

That 1/9 twist should stabilize the big 70-75 grain VLD's If you want factory rounds, look for match grade ammo in 70-75 grain weights.

Yea it points up quick but how much velocity am I going to lose due to the short barrel?

Alot of manufacturers give velocities based on 24 or 22" barrels. Say 3200 fps. But what would it be out of a 14.5" barrel???

Not gonna be my primary rifle. Just something to always have with me for when the opportunity arises to pull off the road and sneek in a stand when I'm traveling from point A to point B.

But the more I think about it. The more it sounds like a bad idea.

One or two positive attributes can't make up for 10 problems.

I think a 243 bolt action cut down to 18" would be the thing.

I never have liked those AR type of rifles. I feel embarrassed to even hold one while someone crosses a fence.

You can't beat a good respectable bolt action. And if someone see's you holding it, you don't feel like trying to hide your face so they don't recognize you!

Tim, I paid $1500.00 for a Clark custom Gator. Shoots 5 shots in .344". I took it hunting one time. Now I like to watch my wife blow up frozen coke bottles with it.

Why not just shoot the winny white box. Most of the coyotes I shoot are under 100 yards. But this last weekend I shot one with my bushy at 150 and the coyote died on the stump that he was standing on.

I have had very few coyotes run after shot in the chest with a lighter .223 round.

But that is just me. I don't kill close to 300 coytes a year though. [Wink]

Heck, I use to never like the looks of them. One of my older Bro's[ex-Airborne] ie;[1dog], loved them. My other oldest Bro[ex-Marine] loved them as well.

Oldest, use to be a Deputy sheriff[he carried a full-auto AR] in his trunk on duty. Did some ride time with him. One evening[on duty] we went down a dead-end road. To go through a 20rd box [Cool]

I was a die-hard bolt guy before. But not since my full-auto ride time.

But if you saw your buddy come walking out of a Honky-tonk with a 400 pound bar fly on his arm. Wouldn't you try to tell him of the errors of his ways?

I don't have any problem with the people who shoot them, I just want to help my friends avoid the embarassment of being seen with one in public!

I love my AR for a truck gun. But it don't go calling often. But out the window at running varmints, or the jump out and over the hood etc..
and it's my favorite "bait" getter (prairie dogs, jack rabbits)

But I'm sure that none of the rest of you guys ever do that......

. I take mine with me whenever I hunt South of I-10 near the Mexican border. I use handloads but white box Winchester( 45gr hollowpoints) seem to work well in a lot of rifles. I have a five round mag for hunting and at least one 20 or 30 in my backpack, but then again, I'm paranoid [Mad]

. The only issue I have with the AR is building a saddle scabbard that fits my horse and saddle. [Frown]
