Which would you prefer, the logo "facing you" when calling, or facing up like this one?

Thanks

I like the logo facing like the photo you posted. For collector's who like to show their calls, I'd think your photo
would display "nicer" if they set it on the bell upright.

Never thought about it till now. Guess I have to be different and like it the other way more. Doesn't really matter all that much, IMO.

What Tundrawookie says makes sense, I just don't have anything collectable. Most of mine are plastic.

Thanks for the replies. [Smile]

While I do understand that some people see my work as collectible, anyone that knows me knows that's not who I build calls for.
I make calls to be used in the field, I make them for callers to call predators with. [Wink]

As I continue to "play with" the bell ends, with the fishmouth, elephant nose, and bologna cut shapes, these calls are less and less likely to stand on their ends (or at least to stand in a "displayable" manner).

I have also asked this question on a call makers board (THO's) and, there, it's been unanimous that I should leave it like it is... only Dan and I think we should flip it over. [Razz]

Thanks again for your input, as I said I don't make calls for me, so I value highly your opinions.

I'd prefer the opposite of the pic shown. Looking at the logo from the tone board end.

How's about one on a dial that can be changed to any direction? You could put in some type of mouse squeaker that goes off as you dial it. Food for thought, but either way is fine and your callers sure do sound good.

Who likes to admire the logo when calling anyway? If so, I would imagine the logo would be better viewed on the underside, when you take the call from your mouth. At least it will be at a distance where you can focus on it, versus in your mouth when it is so blurry that you can't tell if it's upside down or sideways....with your hand covering it. I don't get it?

A guy would go cross-eyed trying to look at a logo while using the call. I think Dial-A-Krusty could be a hot seller. Just joking, but I'm sure some collector would pay a mint to have it.

Don't much care if they have a logo on them or not but I guess it would come in handy if I was useing both a Krusty or TT call. [Big Grin]

Leonard thinks you inhale from the bell end of the call. He's gonna pack the end with hash anyway, so... [Eek!]

It's not about viewing the logo while you're calling; it's about aesthetics. The call will be hanging from a lanyard 99% of the time and the logo, opposite of the pic shown, would look better on a lanyard.

Ask each customer what they prefer and do what they want. Easy Way to choose.

Krusty, rounded end on the reed or square? Does it make much of a difference, sound wise, in your opinion?

Leonard,

I agree, that I should just (in most cases) leave well enough alone.

As far as looking at the logo when calling, I generally glance down at an open reed call, to make sure I have it in my hand the right way as I begin calling *but, I use the call with the reed against my bottom lip.

So that's where I got the idea to flip it over.

Smithers,

Yep, the customer is always right at the Krusty Wood Werx. [Wink]

As far as reed shapes, here's what I once wrote on the subject;

Major Boddicker spells out the basics very well in his intsructions that come with a Critr Call reedpack, I hope he doesn't mind if I paraphrase...

MB "Generally the wider the reed, the coarser and lower the pitch. A round tip has a lower pitch than a square tip. A thick reed has a lower pitch than a thin one."

I can elaborate on this, now, by saying that duck call makers sometimes clip the corners to "dog-ear" the reed. This gives it a slightly softer tone, but still raspy enough to sound like a duck.

I feel like and have seen, though, that the Lexan reed material is more fragile than the polyvinyl used in waterfowl calls, or Mylar used in predator calls, and that the rounded tip tends to have a longer lifespan.
But to me the wider range of tone given by the Lexan is worth this trade off and I'm more than willing to provide the services required to keep these calls up and running.

These days, every call I make has a rounded tip. [Wink]

Thanks for the insight, Krusty.
On Saturday night I made a few reeds with the reed material you sent. I made a double stacked reed. 1/2" wide at the band and 3/8" at the tip, with the thin Lexan. It's dog ear clipped and it sounds incredible, IMO. Out of the reeds I made, about six, the thin Lexan is the best of the best.

I would like to make a couple with rounded tips too. Is there any special way you keep the round tip uniform or do you just wing it?

Smithers,

With all reeds, (squared, dog-eared-or rounded) I sand them to thier final shape.

Material sciences teaches us that smooth edges are less likely to develop cracks, and that slightly rounded (chamfered) corners have more strength, so I use fine sandpaper to smooth and soften the edges of each reed. [Wink]

Hey Krusty One;
I was snooping around on EBay in the predator call section and saw a new listing that was made of Tasmanian Sassafras.
Not sure if it's cool or weird but definitely different.

Kokopelli,

It's definitely weird... considering that sassafras is toxic (*that's why they stopped making root beer with it, in the 1950's). Maybe Tasmanian Sassafras is different?

Cool though, being that Brian Myers (BigB) is a highly talented call maker. [Smile]

Incidentally, Brian's logo is a lot like mine. [Razz]
