I get email updates every time a new post is put on Marc Reindell's wildlife callers Blog. I enjoy this blog because it is local and because it covers more than coyotes. Now Marc is in the WT camp, and today’s blog involved the mighty atom. It was two articles written by two different customers that were submitted to Marc. Marc's site ***** WT callers so I figure that is why you will only see WT callers on his site.

I decided go to Bill M's site and just take another look at the WT caller and something caught my eye. Bills amplifier is rated at 100 amps, and my reaction was HOLY $HIT. Next, I went to the battery link on Bill site, and Bill supplies this link as a suggested battery pack:
http://www.batteryspace.com/li-ion18650battery148v2200mah3256whbatterymoduleflatprewiredwithpcb.aspx

This s a 14.8 volt 32.56Wh battery pack. The Wh means Watt hour. In other words this battery pack should deliver 32.56 Watts for 1 hour. If you ran the WT caller on Wide Open Throttle (WOT) that is at 100 watts as advertised, it would drain the battery in approximately 20 minutes (100/32.56). I guess you better not run the WT callers at WOT if you intend to use the caller all day long on multiple stands.

I'm no electrical engineer, but common sense tells me something is amiss.

Aznative,
Good observation about the WT specs. I think what they mean by the 100 Watt "Power Handling" is that the speaker itself is able to handle 100 Watts. It's like this spec. [Smile] , where they give the actual speakers power handling, rather than the amplifier:

http://www.parts-express.com/pdf/264-202.pdf

It probably has more like a 9Watt amp in the thing, but maybe Martz can tell us what exactly the power of the amplifier is.

Damn wookie! Can you smell these WT posts when they pop up? Inside info perhaps?

Exactly 20 minutes and you're all over it. Might be a new record of sorts? Does LB keep track of these things?

You may be right. I just caught the 100w spec. After going back to WT's site, I saw it worded as "Power Handling: 100 Watts". It probably is the max power capability of the speaker. I find it funny how certain sites promote certain products. PM pushes FP. I personally own a scorpion. I bought it because it was a good deal. It was at the local Cabela's store in the bargain bin priced at 350. I had a 20 percent off coupon, and I picked it up for 280. It works very well for being in such a small package, and it has called a fair amount of coyotes for what little I get out. I believe most of the newer digital callers work real well. I would have no problem owning a Minaska or a WT which is why I check Bill's site every so often.

Luckyjack,
I just have a script written that tells me whenever WT is typed on any forum in the world [Big Grin] It sends me an email, text message, and a cell phone call notifying me.

All the digital and "non-digital" (cassette) callers will work, there's a history showing it. Maybe when it warms up more than -40ºF I'll break out the old Johnny Stewart 45 Record Player and give it a shot.....well maybe not, but it does sound pretty good. I think I'd rather tote the Scorpion than the old 45's. Good times.

I know someone that had a 45 rpm Johnny Stewart record player. I even used it once. After getting back into this sport I called him to see if I could buy it from him. He donated it to a young man and son that were just starting out several years ago. I guess you could say he felt it would be put to good use. I simply wanted it for its antique value only.

no way it has a 100 watt amp it would weigh alot more I would think. Tundra has the right idea the speaker could handle 100 watts but never going to get close with an e caller and your post AZ as battery life would be little for sure.

I'm interested when Bill will do the side by side with the PB FP makes??? To see how that video tutorial turns out.

Still waiting for him to come run off all my coyotes for me? What say you Bill?

Bill does hype up the WT callers, but they probably perform well. I understand he offers one now that a man can actually program your own sounds in to it.

In our effort to belittle Bill, we don't always read the fine print well.

The FP prairie blaster will run its BIG battery down in about 3 hours of full volume use. The standard D cells won't last an hour.

Dan,
It's 3.75 hours running both batteries in high power mode and 6 hours running the single speaker in high power mode.

http://www.gofoxpro.com/products/digital_calls/pb_chart.php

Single speaker mode would be a good comparison against the single speaker Mighty Atom, hopefully I can get you those numbers here shortly.

Kelly, yes I do, although it may weigh more it seems not to, not sure how to explain it but it's more compact and that nice handle on it etc just seem to work real well.

I had the old TOA and the new MA21 on my truck toolbox running them both the other day in the driveway. The MA has a deeper louder sound with better sound quality, hard to explain. Like a high end sound system difference???

I like the totally enclosed plastic case idea, pretty slick. Been beatin it round pretty good and it seems to be holding up fine, it is an upgrade but I sure liked my old TOA and it is awful hard to leave it in the truck!!! A month from now and it will be a forgotten deal.

Hey by the way, I luv those cigar smokin pics!!! Seems I can almost smell the smoke when you post em!!!!!!!!!!

thx Randy.

Killed another quad Saturday. Not a true quad, but 4 on one stand.

 -

I have the smaller WT with the TOA as a back up, but have not even put batteries in in this year.
Got a buddy that has a MA21. Have not got to hunt with him yet this year. Looking forward to hearing that call.

Catch you later
Kelly

What 12 Volt battery are they using?

Dan,
Right on the chart it says they're using a 12 Volt, Lead Acid, 3.4AH battery to obtain a 3.75 hour runtime.

There's a picture of it at the bottom of this link.

Sorry Dan, I don't know the manufacturer of the SLA battery. Have you found that various manufacturers of SLA batteries have better products with similar AH ratings? If so, please let me know which one's perform better than the others. Most of the 3.4AH batteries I've seen are the Universal Battery (UB1234) and Powersonic. It doesn't appear as though it's a Powersonic just by the case. If you really want to know who manufacturers the battery, let me know and I'll find out for you.

Dan,
The answer to your question, is that they use several different suppliers and model numbers. As long as they're 12volt, 3.4AH, and meet the dimensions to fit the PB case. I didn't get a list of them though, I'm sure FoxPro would send it to you if it's that important though.

Do you have some further information on SLA battery manufacturers and certain SLA's performing better than others? Thanks.
