That's what the wife said when I show her the latest two calls to come out of the shop. [Smile]

Several months ago, I made a couple calls from some rosewood Brad H sent me, and coated them with polyurethane, which caused a problem.
The polyurethane takes a really long time to dry, and may not completely, on oily woods like rosewood (I find out after the fact).

I forgot all about them, hiding from dust, in a cabinet in the shop, and remembered them in a snap the other night.

After some serious rubbing with fine steel wool, and an old t-shirt, here they are;

 -

 -

I also finished two other calls this week, a figured maple one, and a walnut one;

 -

 -

The little walnut call, a Red Chili model, is for Fred, the guy who taught me to trap beavers.
The longer of the two rosewood calls is for Brad, and I haven't decided where the other two are going yet.

The small rosewood call has a single reed on it, I could not bring myself to add a top reed to it.

I am completely in love with it, but it deserves to be with a virtuoso who will actually use it to call lots of critters.

Ronnie instantly comes to mind as a true virtuoso among callers, and so does Rich Cronk, but both already have calls I made.

Hmmmm?

Cal got hosed, getting one of the first calls, and one of few antler calls I ever made... and it sucked.

Cal, if you want it, this lil Rosa is your's!

Trade Ya for a call with one of my howler boards, if you're interested. I'd like to have one of yours.

K, what diameter log do you need? Can it be just the size of a finished call, or do you work with quarter rounds?

Good hunting. LB

Steve,

I think the last call figured out where it was going?

In the last round of calls somebody made me an offer that I'd be stupid, to be too stubborn, to take.

You and I will work something out.

Leonard,

Is the log thing, a joke, in reference to the size of the pictures?

If not, I am not sure I understand the question?

Geezus, Krusty. No wonder you get flack! A joke? Don't you understand the word diameter? I have some ironwood, but it is more like stick size, one inch in diameter, or so. I just wondered if it is something that can be made into a friggin' call.

Crow Woman,

I'm definitely going to have to make you a new one.

I asked Red one time, after he'd said dozens of times he didn't want to sell that little rhododendron wood call... "C'mon man, every one has his price?"

He thought long and hard, like he does, and said "200 BUCKS!", firm as granite (just like his head!).

I think he'll be keeping it, for a long time.

While I appreciate the usual generous offer of hospitality (Leonard's right we do have awesome people here), Lance and his boys at the US Postal Service have been providing me with an excellent shipping department. I'd hate to deny them their 72 cents. [Wink]

While we're on the subject of road trips for hunting, and it's standard practice to drag a thread in whatever direction it goes... what's the deal on jackrabbits in the fall? Is it worth making a trip in Oct-Nov?

Leonard,

I guess you don't remember, but they used to tease me back when we all used the chatroom on PM, because I would post a picture of a call several screens wide, that it would take a pick-up truck to carry a call... I made them with whole trees, etc.

The word "log" threw me for a loop, and I thought it might have been an old inside joke come to haunt me. [Smile]

Stick, now we're talking the same scale.

About 3/4" would be as small as I could go and any size or shape from there up.

But you can get someone else to work on ironwood.
It smells really bad, and even I don't have the patience to grind it into a call.
I've got a piece that might be big enough to turn... you can have it.

Krusty, You know I have a weakness for those Maple calls. Those are all beauts.
You still need a scope? Leupold VX-1, 3X9X40, black, in the box, all the papers.
I am sure you guys have noted that little concave under the mouth piece, it makes a big difference.

Crow Woman,

We got cottontails and snowshoe rabbits here, I don't want to hunt rabbits (or prairie dogs), just blast some (and make that be the reason to go someplace with a few coyotes).

Making a road trip, for coyotes alone, is too risky.

I already HAVE a worn out body, it would kill me to have to haul another one around. [Wink]

I think we can get you into a new call, for a lot less.

Cal,

I need a shipping address.

Jackrabbits?

Carl,

Yep, I have been carrying the Model 100 (.284) since my rifle decided to "melt" at Bear Camp, and it could really use some better optics.

I wish my brother had never put the Burris plex on his rifle, and the ol man never put the Nikon on the Deuce... now I look through a crappy scope, and it looks crappy.
I was better off not knowing what I was missing.

Red has volunteered to deliver your call, since we're practically neighbors.
I'm not sure if he has you ph# or not? You got his still?

hey hey hey... back up Threetoes... remember what Tim said my profile said... "Hunting and Skinning Animals... Men Mostly" [Wink]

it's ok Krusty... I don't want this old worn out body either... lol I did however come up with something special for you! [Cool]

Bobbie Hart is always bringing someone up here to hunt long range. Usually when he shows up he has about 3 or 4 with him so that just goes to show that I have some room. I just wish some of you would come east for a spell.

Well folks "eat yer heart out" I got it. Red and Krusty did a hand delivery service last night and I got "it".
The figured Maple Call, played with it today, a little,
Krusty, the sound board/reed/angle is such that it is playable with very little air pressure. I use my right front tooth to adjust tone, this call is very controllable, about half an octave lower in pitch than my other Krusty Maple. As normal the finish and style is "krusty fine" I think that is a USDA term!!
thanks man

Carl,
At the moment my schedule for the rest of the year is trashed so I still can't make any plans yet. If we get the work in Sheridan WY I'll be back on track for the winter, but It's still an "if". I'll get an email off your way in a day or two.

Cal,

The longer this little rosewood call sits here, the less likely it is to make it to your house.

I need a shipping address, hopefully it'll be the one you use.

Crow Woman,

I need a shipping address from you too.
