Just got a pretty nice call called the lil' dog or some such. Actually really versitile. You should give it a try sometime.
Can do distress and howls out of it.

That sounds like a primos ***** Andeson signiture series call. I have them all. I really love the hot dog, the little dog is a good caller if you can go light on the air (green one) as opposed to alot of air the hot dog takes. I still dont quite know if I like the Double Wammy though, but its a good concept.

Brother in law got the double thing... He likes it not. I have not tried it out, but when double howling on the lildog we seem to be able to get some response.

I like the Lil' Dog the best out of all of Randall's Ripoffs. I have called in a few critters with it and really like the versatility. My most recent kill with the Lil'Dog was a Red Fox. I howled at this fox... he came across an open field that contained a coyote just moments before... and he had a mouthfull of mice to top it all off. Bless his brave soul:

jrbhunter, Randalls ripoffs? your a little harsh arn't you? Ive had some success with the Hot Dog and the little dog and belive there was some effort on the designer and manufacurers part, now I know their a far cry from the custom calls Ive seen, but where you comming from? man. They been good calls to me except for that wammy one.
Nice fox BTW! pretty efficient them foxes.

I don't think much of the way Randall & Will have treated Dan Thompson and others in the business.
Posted by RedRabbit (Member # 796) on March 23, 2006, 11:18 AM:
Jrbhunter, I dont know the story I have all of Dan's calls Too, I saw them on the videos, so I bought them and they have worked in my hands called me in a coyote a few times. When Randall was working with will I do remember them mention very little about Dan and his calls on the video which I think they could of gave him more credit. Is that what your talking about?
Posted by UTcaller (Member # 8) on March 24, 2006, 04:14 PM:
I think what he's talking about is Randall used to use Dan's howler,Bill Austin howler/open reed distress, and Dan's closed reed call. Then Primos comes along and he designs his own line of calls and the Hot dog is just a plastic replica of the red desert howler, the little dog is basically the Austin open reed call, and the KI-Yi is basically the same as the closed reed call of Dan's.The only difference is that Randall and Primos make the money now.Same with the Randall sounds on the Foxpro, you have to order them through Randalls web site you can't get them from foxpro. Can you say SHOW ME THE MONEY.LOL
I really don't care because I don't use or own any of them anyway.Just kind of interesting is all.

UTcaller,
I dont belive that Randall or Will are to blame for anything because the calls of that design are common, even custom made calls are similar and have been around for generations. I dont think Randall has embarked on anything new either nor stepped on anyones toes. They simply capitalized on the calling techniques by making their own signature calls or sounds.
I can bet that Dan and Bill has reaped some benefits to being on the videos or had their calls demonstated its had too up their sales. Hell! I sure bought into them. Now Im gonna go custom, cause I have a affinity to the craftmanship of those calls.
Dam! this coyote huntings getting spendy...

Even ***** 's double reed call is a copy of Ed Sceery's call. He's good at calling but not to good at designing his own calls. just a copy cat looking to take some ones meal ticket away.
Look at E.L.K. products, they designed there own calls and they are different from everyone elses.

Utcaller, don't argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. See bang-bang-bang-bang-bang flop thread.

Jrbhunter, Geeeez! dont hold anything back. WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM! Do I have to be a "senor member" to disagree with people here on this forum? I think I was being civil in my reply to UTcaller. I wasn't trying to "drag him down" as you say and then you have the nerve to call me an idiot. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang flop thread? where did that come from? insult my intelligents why dont you? That thread was a case of misunderstanding and disagreement and I apologized to those that I offended. I wasnt trying to win anyone over on that thread and Im not going to let anyone tell me the sky isn't blue when it comes to what Ive seen for my own eyes regarding the .17remington.
If I were to go around calling people an idiot and putting garbage on the threads I would probably say something really sincere to you like this, Jrbhunter I got a question for you, you know that brown spot that comes to a wrinkle between my gluteuses? pucker up and kiss it for me would ya, and after that YOU CAN GO PISS UP A ROPE! but nope I wont do that cause Im better than that and I dont want to stoop to your level either.
Please remember to be gentle, you just might hurt the only one feeling I have left.

TA, Ive got the longer Red Desert howler and it has a good sound but the rim on it is too narrow for the way I use one, or atleast limits me to certain howls, as for Randall's if you take a close look at the mouth piece it has a wider rim and the reed doesn't collapse on me right when I hit the perfect note. Its a little more user friendly for me, but thats just me. Theres a certain howl that I do that the Red Desert wont do for me consistantly I can do it, but I can do it better with the Hot Dog and it has more volume. OH well.. WTFDIK

First off Bill is no longer amongst the living so I doubt he is benefiting much from ***** 's videos.LOL
As far as the calls go,you're right that he can capitalize on the success of his videos, and make more cash with his own calls. But I as a consumer can also see it for what it is.A Primos money maker.Plain and simple.Like you stated he didn't do ANYTHING new just made alittle twist to what has worked for him for years. And made a bunch of money in the process.LOL
As far as the Hotdog howler goes,my brother bought one a while back, and from what little I've heard it used it's one of the worst sounding howlers I've heard.
Just my 2 cents Good Hunting Chad

Yes Bill A. is gone but his wife still has his calls and tapes manufactured, can get them from Wyoming outdoor Ind. Inc. and few other places.
I believe he has some of the best coyote calling sounds on the market today.

UT, I know Bill A. is gone R.I.P. I was just trying to cut to the chase, so to speak.
I belive that those calls stand on their own and his certainly will be a favorite in my collection. I also belive that there is some incredible talent out there with the custom calls being made and are worth their weight in gold.
Anyway how long does a patent last? what? seven yrs and after that if someone can come along and take an existing design and improve upon it I say more power to them. A persons idea of improvement is worth something even if its a small one, since nobody else will do it. Anyway good hunting

Spin it anyway you want,I call em like I see em.I'm sure Primos won't complain about your business.LOL Good Hunting Chad

Yeah, I hear what you guys are saying Will of Primos is a flamboyant guy and reeks of all buisness and sales. Hell in the videos I wished he would just shut his trap for one minute to hear what Randall had to say. Randall is a rural hunter and I like to learn from people like that. I grew up with country people and they shared alot of taken for granted infomation. I dont think theres much of a table to turn on this subject you got to admit Will has buisness savvy and Randall is a good caller. Hell! their laughing all the way to the bank. FWIW
