The last couple months. I've been buying some Willketchem calls & single-toneboards. Give the calls away.

Made some reeds, glued the toneboards into some Copper plumbing parts[They sound awesome [Wink] ]. Gave them all away to some guys wanting to get into callin, as well as established predator callers.

Had fun all the way.

Who knows! they might work "plumb good." You didn't keep any for yourself? It don't always take real fancy calls to bring coyotes in..i whittled a distress call out of a peice of,wooden mop handle..The call body and mouth peice was one solid peice of mop handle..The first time out,i called a nice coyote in with it..Funny thing tho,i had this taste in my mouth like soap powder. Mop-handle, [Cool] Melvin. You still have that call?

I plan on getting a air opperated[Dental Tool] wood carver. Here in the next month or so, [a tad expensive [Eek!] ]. To make some hand-made call bodies.

I'm getting close to retirement. So I want to get good at it. During my down-time.

2dogs, i still have the call-I have called several coyotes and one black bear in with it.

When i made the call,i designed the inside, cone shaped..I can do the rabbit distress and deer bawl with it perfectly. It's an open reed call.

I took up call making about 6 years ago..My first calls were for turkey hunting,i made the box, slate, and glass calls-a year later i was making predator calls, and still do...It's now my no.1 hobby....Hope you enjoy it as much as i do [Wink]

2dogs, good to hear you're putting those tone boards to good use. I give a lot of em away also. My brother-in-law is a house parent at a boys ranch in my area and it happens to be some pretty good calling country. I kinda adopted the boys and made em all a call. Some of them are getting pretty good with them. Made me popular with the boys but not with the house parents. We've got a new molded call, I'll send you a sample when we get a few made up.

Steve,

Tis I, uh...kirby [Big Grin] . Or whatever my name is LOL!

Yep your Gray Call is awesome, as well as the toneboards.

A friend gave me some reed material. He bought at Wallyworld, [good stuff]. The first TB, I bought from you. I glued into a Copper plumbing reducer, nice ring to her.

I did manage to save one for myself [Wink] . Thanks again for your fine craftsmanship [Cool]

2dogs,
Are those toneboards for distress or howlers?

Way to go,Steve..It's a good feeling to see a youngster getting interested in predator calling.

Will Ketchem? I heard that name used before, but can't seem to place it right now.

Melvin,

They are an open-reed mouth piece. I can make the following sounds from them;

Canine/coyote howl, bark, whine
Fawn bleat
Jack distress
Cottintail distress
Mouse squeek
cat meow[takes some doing [Roll Eyes] ]
& a Jack, being eatin alive by a goat...ie;[Jack-goat muncher] [Big Grin] . My favorite [Cool]

I've tried/experimented with a lot of different materials. One of the best, was cut from a thin clear donut container [Wink] .

Kirby,

No need for a high dollar dental tool. You can get by with a basic dremel tool.

I wrote a how-to, on making calls by hand, if you'd like I can forward you a copy.

You know, I supply several of the call makers with their reed materials, send me your shipping address, and I'll send you a free sample pack.
I think you can do better than that Wal*Mart stuff. [Wink]

Steve,

I have been looking forward to more stories from the Ranch. [Wink]

It is good to see you're still kickin', I s'pose you been real busy with hunting seasons.

Melvin,

The answer to your question is, yes, they are for distress and howlers.

Here's one of my Willeketchum calls, with a slip on horn I added to it.

 -

It's a great distress call, without the horn, and one of the best sounding howlers I have ever used, with it.

Krusty -

P.S. Kirby you should be able to add, mallard duck, and deer grunt, to that list. [Smile]
