Hey, what is everybody using for bands? Some type of latex exam glove fingers, of course.
I hit on something, recently. I sharpened a pizza cutter, you know, about a 3" wheel, and that seems to do a real good job of cutting mthe fingers.
Anybody have a suggestion we all can try?
Good hunting. LB
PS, did you see how much that one went for on ebay!

I use the rotary fabric cutter that I bought in the sewing dept. at Wal-Mart. It has a replaceable round razor blade (looks like your pizza cutter), two settings, light and heavy duty, and a lock so you don't lose a finger. Ten bucks and worth it. The bands look like the factory bands after cutting. Seals the edges and have to be seperated. I still use Evolution One gloves. Brent uses something else and his sound great.
edit: did one really wind up on E-Bay? [ August 04, 2005, 07:07 PM: Message edited by: Rich Higgins ]

What I've found works best is to use a #24 scalpel blade. I place the exam glove flat (it must be a smooth, non-stippled exam glove, which are getting harder and harder to come by) on a panel of cardboard. I then place a steel ruler across the base of the finger and roll the scalpel blade across the rubber. Pretty much the same as you're doing Leonard, because as you know, you can't get a clean edge if you "pull" the blade across the glove at all. I make them about a half-inch wide, and when I get them on the howler, I take the "collar" off a kid's balloon and put it on the edge of the band that is closest to the end of the mouthpiece. Seems to hold it down snug, especially when slobbered all up, and keeps any air from going under it.
One band will last me either about five months, or until just as I'm walking away from the truck on a critical stand with someone along who wants to see this thing work and when I don't have any extra bands. Never fails. ![[Frown]](frown.gif)

That's interesting, Lance.
I used to use a single edge razer blade pressed straight down on an anvil. Also, I cut mine closer to three quarters of an inch.
Do you guys just use the index and little finger? I only get two from each finger, so that's a max of four reeds per glove.
As far as what sort of glove, I beg borrow or actually steal a wide assortment. Soom are definitely better than others.
Do you like a tight, or a sloppy fit?
Good hunting. LB
My guess is it was the other twin, buyer and seller, attempting to create a market. Serious money. [ August 04, 2005, 07:28 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

Tim, if you want one, I can probably come up with one? Next time I see Higgins, I'll rummage in his trash. He throws away nice looking calls for the slightest (cosmetic) flaw, which are easily repairable.
He doesn't know it, but I copped a bunch, last visit. Unfortunately, I'm fresh out. Been selling 'em on ebay as studio quality, genuine Bill Martz Howlers.
I'll see if I can get you one?
Good hunting. LB LB

He's being held hostage, standing on a trash can, black hood, with battery cables attached to his scrotum.
Send Tim a howler, or we will flip the switch. BM

Nancy asked me not to do it, BM. The electrodes on the scrotum thing reminded Nancy of Frankenstein and she's kinda hoping this will bring Leonard back to life.
