Brent Saxton is making and selling what I think are the most attractive and definitely the best sounding howlers available. He uses the same mouthpiece that I used for my howlers and offers two styles: a standard grade for $75 and an artistically enhanced model for $100. These are bargains.

I don't know how long it will be before Brent sees this so I will answer for him. The wall thickness varies on all the howlers. It is thicker than most horn howlers because we want to avoid the vibrating "horny" sound that thin bodied horns impart to the howls. These howlers make a "solid" and pure howl that emanates from the reed. They are short and strong, fit in your pocket and will withstand some abuse, such as sitting on them or falling from a moving vehicle onto the pavement. Huh, Brent. lol

LOL Rich!!!!!

Greenside,

The wall thickness is a little more than you will see on a regular howler. For the reason Rich stated. I try to take most of the stock I need to come off from the out side of the horn, if the howler sounds like I want it to. Sometime I will take some off the inside if I want to make a change to the shape of the inside of the horn, the inside of the horn gives the sound a natural sound and air flow. I dont want the horn to vibrate like a reed howler would. Im just looking for a smooth flow of sound over or off the inside of the horn.

The howers are short and will fit in your pocket, what I did was take the lgth of the howler, thickness of the horn, and shape of the inside of the horn and Dia of the horn and shape them to get the sound chamber I need to get the ound or air flow needed. Every horn is a little diffrent so, I haft to look at each horn and build or shape what I need, make any since?

I field tested these howlers for a year and a half, from Az to Western Ky and Ohio, and anywere else I could find..lol..Im very happy with the way the did, I made small changes to them along the way, to get to were I was happy with them amd felt good about offering them to the public. I took all the feed back I could get from Rich and Jay and all the others along the way.

Rich is right they are tough! I was hunting in Western Ky with Steve M and left the howler on the bed rail of the truck, we drove off and fell off the truck ( at somewere around 55 MPH) about a mile from were we made our last stand of the day. Back at camp someone ask me to blow my howler and I found out it was gone! I didnt find it till the next day, it was laying in the middle of a paved road. Other than a few dings it was good to go, I picked it up, wiped it off and howled with it...lol..So, they hold up well.

And I haft to thank Rich for all the help and input on these howlers!

Brent
