What are your thoughts on something to carry whatever gear you might need, on stand?
A fanny pack, a small backpack? Need it be in a color coordinated camo color? Do six pocket BDUs see you through? Sidearm? Folding knife, or fixed blade? What's the exact number of rounds you carry? Ever heard of "Magic Mist"? What do you carry in your hands; caller, shooting sticks, decoy? Who carries two guns? When and why? Who travels light, who goes overboard?
List essentials, inquiring minds want to know.

As you are aware, I carry everything in a turkey vest which has a stadium seat built in;
What is in it?
Hand calls; 6 or 7 of them; a skinning knife, sharpener, tail stripper; A pair of extra gloves; a spray bottle of some concoction I have made over the years... some TP just in case; my js 612 remote; a couple shells, sometimes some water, some rope; Maybe a couple more things but I can't envision them as I write this;
When I wear 6 pocket camo, I don't wear my leafy wear pants and then my remote goes into a leg pocket with a couple shells in the front pocket...

Shooting Sticks, Bino's and a butt pad. I also wear a small fanny pack(Kalifornia style)with a small tri-fold toiletry bag with 3 or 4 open reed calls and maybe a couple of closed reeds. Also in the fanny I have a Carlton bell for howling and for bucking the wind with distress calls.
My guns have Harris LS bipods on and I also have Mikes shell holders on the stocks with 5 or 6 spare shells.
That about it other than a Old Timer Muskrat skinner and some TP in case of emergency.
Edit: I'm buying myself an Olympus all weather digital for Christmas. Should be plenty of room in the fanny pack for it. Hopefully posting more pictures in the future.

Listen, I know there is much to be learned from our various members. I sure as heck don't have all the answers, but I know a good idea when I hear/read it.
Now, what do you bring with you as an accessory. Some have mentioned TP. I'll go you one better on that issue. I have been using the small portable packets of "baby wipes" for at least ten years. I saw Ted Koppel of ABC, as an "embedded" journalist, during "Iraqi Freedom" say that one of the most important high tech advancements for combat in the desert was...."baby wipes!".
Come on, shake loose a couple gems for us eagar nimrods. Please.

One thing I carry, that isn't a necessity is a pair of pruners. I use them about 25% of the time when trying to find a good place to sit.
I also have a 22 pistol that is in my turkey vest or on my belt...
I Tim doesn't go anywhere with out a can of Copenhagen.

Leonard I like to go light. Two calls in the shirt pocket, folding soft chair with the shooting sticks wedged in and a rifle. Warm months of early Fall or late Spring will find me with my Colt Commander. Snakes are out and about then. Heck the last snake I shot was on Dec 1st in 40 degree weather.

I just found what might be the predator hunters dream bags. In fact, they're under the tree wrapped up in pretty red paper.
They're made by Summit Equipment. Cabelas has they're Rocky Leg Packs but I got the larger models at Sportsmans Warehouse. They're leg packs attached to a belt and ride on the outside of your thighs so you don't have to take them on and off when entering or exiting the truck, sitting on stand, or getting stuff out of them. They have a fold down seat cushion too. They won't fit my shooting sticks but I think I can manage carrying that in my hand.

I've got a Gunslinger rifle holster sewn into the belt that works great. I've also got an assortment of fanny packs, backpacks, chest packs, etc. that will be gathering dust in the closet now. I took them out in the field yesterday for a couple stands and the only issue is getting in and out of the truck under the steering wheel. It's a little cumbersome but it beats putting things on and taking them off at every stand.
The only other drawback is that they hold too much. I find myself cramming every nook and pocket in them with useless stuff that I never need to take to the stand. I guess that will cure itself once the novelty wears off though.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share a new gadget. I just love gadgets ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

and the warehouse is sold out of them for now... I will either have to wait or order from Cablas. I think Cabelas carrys a different style.
I bought a new stool from Hunter's Specialites... found myself not having to deal with the turkey vest now... have my 612, the stool, my rifle and 3 or 4 calls around my neck...
I had actually been pondering the concept of the load bearing tactical military vests as an alternative to the leg packs.

we usually don't go far from the truck most of the time 100 yds or so we call in terrain where roads are every mile so i go to the stand light my gun couple of shells in my pocket and 2 or 3 closed reed calls around my neck stay 15 or 20 minutes and back to the truck sometimes just cross the road to call the other side

Leg bags would be hard to X-country ski with. I carry the same as Greenside (except for different calls), but I'm going to X-country ski the bench roads for the next couple of months. Snow is too deep for trucks and only one or two snowmobile tracks here and there. I'm looking into a tatical leg holster for my semi .22 pistol. The hip holster is always getting in the way in and out of the truck.

When hunting from my truck I go real light and most everything goes in my pockets - calls (3-5), binos (maybe), pruners, ammo, face mask and I carry 2 foam pads to kneel or sit on or against. Also wear my snow poncho. Tons of other stuff includng skinners, tail strippers, etc stay in the truck. When the bears are out if toting my 223 I'll carry my 45-70 revolver otherwise the 12 ga with #4 & slugs. Can't see carrying alot if I'm close say with in a 1/2 mile or so to the truck just to make a stand.
When with my snogo or 4whlr or on foot you don't really want to know all the stuff I carry. I can stay a week as hunting solo where I do there isn't any body and I would kind of like to survive!

Rifle w/shell holder and 10 rounds on stock, 2-3 calls around neck, gloves,facemask and definetly my shooting sticks.I also carry a "critter carrier" to haul the dogs back to the truck.
If Im a ways from the truck, like when I hunt the hills for cats Ill take my Crooked Horn fannypack and carry a knife,water,snacks and definetly TP Never leave home without it.Leaves hurt the booty.
