Received in the mail today.

This is a closed reed with a cottontail voice, made in black walnut. The mouthpiece is a 25'06 brass case and what looks like a sleeve that actually holds the reed in place?

It has excellent volume, and a good tone. Has a lanyard groove and what looks like a urethane finish, and is laser etched with the brand logo and personalized with my name on the opposite side.

Thanks, Leonard. Thought you'd like that little personal extra. For some of you guys that have seen my earlier models, this is a new look. The all wood variety will still be available. This version, with the brass mouthpiece, will be available around September so I'll let you know more about it as we get closer. For now, Leonard and I are the only guys in the world with calls like these. Nannanananananan [Razz]

While deciding what to do in this new mouthpiece design, I looked at .45 brass, and .25-06. My decision to go with the '06 was totally due to one thing - I had a drill bit that was the exact same O.D. as the shell casing. (Also, I use a 25-06 as do a lot of other guys, while the 45 isn't regarded as a varmint round.) Wouldn't be a problem if I can get the hole fit just right.

How about one from a 50 BMG brass? I bet it would have a good ring. Maybe cut down a 264 Mag or similair brass and slip the base over the neck of the 50 and then fit a closed reed into the 264 neck?

I received this call from Lance yesterday. Exactly as Leonard described, except mine is a healthy raspy jackrabbit. I was surprised that I liked the '06 mouthpiece. My teeth fit in the extractor groove and it is very comfortable to blow this call. Very good, true tone and LOUD. I have probably 50 jack voiced calls and this call will be one of 4 that I will use.

For those of you that may be trying to picture what I've made here, here's a picture of one of the black walnut models. I still have the all wood model for anyone that needs to stay away from the freeze-prone brass mouthpieces. I've currently got thee in black walnut and purpleheart, and the latter of the two looks extremely handsome with that brass mouthpiece.

Those two calls were my first custom calls and will probably always remain in my possession. I think my nephews will end up inheriting them. I just hope I have a chance to teach them to use them.

Rich H. is on the money when he says they are loud, but they sound great soft too.

Thanks Lance, hopefully I will get some of this farm work caught up so I go out and find some donors soon.

Thanks, I like that set too, but Lance deserves the credit, he builds a call that is pleasing to both the eye and the ear. I think I have a representation of every style he has offered for sale so far, but I could be wrong.

After digging deep, I've discovered two of the very first style I turned, complete with decals. Both are oak, one is a cottontail and the other is a jack. I'm gonna keep one of them, but you're sure welcome to buy up the other. Your choice which one. Let me know if you're interested and I'll set it aside for whenever you want it.

I know I have stated how much I like the sound of Lance’s PREDATR calls. Sunday I found someone that agreed.

I was set up along a wash in a small canyon that opened up into a little bowl. I began with a lone howl, a long wait then another lone howl with a long wait. No howls in response and no coyotes in sight. I chose my walnut-all-wood-jack-voiced PREDATR. Three sharp screams and the magpies took flight and landed in the tree behind me cackling and carrying on. I began pleading quietly and the white chest appeared on the opposite hill side. I let out a few lip-squeaks with no response, a couple of whimpers on my PREDATR and she closed the gap. She dropped behind a knoll I thought to try and wind me, but she never showed up down wind. She reappeared back on the opposite hillside broad side and 80 yards away. I’m accustomed to them right in my lap, and up close and personal, by the time I recognized the opportunity, and began to work my rifle into position she was on the move. She disappeared in some tall brush, where I couldn’t see her. I tried to coax her back with some lip-sqeaks but nothing doing. I finally gave up and started to make my way back to the truck. I glanced over my shoulder and there she was sitting down watching me make my exit. I set the shotgun down and eased into a sitting position. I touched the trigger on the exhale. To my surprise I didn’t see a running coyote after the 150 yard shot.

I recieved this call from Lance the other day, it's part of the flame maple series of calls I am having all the call makers I know spin up outta the wood I got from Bud (please write me for details Jay, I can't seem to get ahold of you by e-mail...).

The wood is beautiful, but it has only been made moreso by the awesome handiwork of the gents at PREDATR Calls.

I love the 25-06 case for the mouthpiece, I doubt it'll ever get cold enough to create a problem.
And the laser engraving is too nice... I am gonna have to step up, and get mine done like that. [Wink]
