First, whack job #1 can't hit his target at 150 yards from a prone position.

Then, whack job #2 shows up with a 'scoped AK-47' and sets up at aprox. 300 yards.

I'm not a gun guy but isn't an AK-47 only about a half step more accurate than a Mini-14 ???? Not exactly a precision 300 yard shooter.

Like Gran-pa used to say; 'Gawd must love morons 'cause he sure made a bunch of them'.

[Eek!]

Ko ko, I heard somewhere that he had a scoped Dragonov bolt action rifle?

You can't trust the Media. To them, everything is some version of AR15, AK47 or Assault Rifle.

But what has me very upset is that they only charged this asshole with 2 charges, one of which was intentionally obliterating the serial number.

Now, how in the hell are you going to "trace" a fucking surplus World War II Russian military rifle? The Media gets all hot and bothered about "tracing" serial numbers to solve murders. If only you can register serial numbers, you can easily solve almost any murder!

Dragonov? I believe its a sniper version of the AK 47

Nah, it's completely different. It's a bolt action, not a lot different from a Springfield 1903 or a 98 Mauser.

People have AR15 and AK47/assault rifle on the brain without a fucking clue as to what they are talking about.

What's a shame is that our Media publishes total shit and people then have nothing else to go on.

Good hunting. El Bee

PS I'll see if I can google a link you ya.

edit: well, I see that Media has successfully muddied the waters. I found Dragonov but it actually does look like it operates much like the AK47, semi auto etc.

However the photo I saw with the FBI in posession of the rifle that the guy used at the golf course was a Nosen Nangent bolt job but they called it a Dragonov? Go figure, can't trust the Media or the fucking FBI!

edit: so, you may be correct?

One would think that 'Firearm Identification' would be FBI School 101 ....... or something.

I'm hearing that somebody saw a rifle barrel sticking thru the fence and took action. Good eye & good move.
However .......... I fear for the poor guy who's looking for a ball in the rough and takes a putter with him for snakes or the maintenance guy with a rake and the response is suppressive fire. [Eek!]

I always liked the Dragonov sniper rifle and would own one if it came in another caliber, way better than a AR or that thing Koko keeps in the closet. (mini-14) Dragonov has longer barrel and a base for mounting a scope..
As for comment about who is right you can be, no matter here. LOL [Smile]

[Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

That 'thing' in the closet has put a bunch of fur on stretchers. Half minute of coyote @ 100 yards all day long. Even got a 3 out of 5 triple one time in Oregon but gotta admit the barrel warmed up a wee bit. [Cool]

I had one at one time, did love the gun just wish the dam thing would of grouped. [Mad]

Yeah, 'patterns' more than 'groups'. Where I was whackin' & stackin' was a bit too open for the shottie (El Bee word [Razz] ) and a bit too tight to justify spending the coin on a long range tack-driver. There was something about that 75 to 100 yard zone that the coyotes felt comfortable in and that's pretty much the sweet spot for the Mini-14.

ko ko, I have to butt in here and question your ?

The damned action clicketty clack of a Mini 14 or the Mini 30, of which I am a bit more familiar. The smooth action of the AR has the Mini 14 beat all to hell. But, there's no accounting for taste, I guess?

Good hunting. El Bee

edit:
PS look you like it and it sells ok so you aren't alone. I actually was very positive when I first saw it because it looked and the action was very much a copy of the M1 Garand which was the rifle I carried through basic training and the first centerfire rifle I ever fired. But all that positive stuff flew out the window the first time I shot one/not belonging to me. The action is so distracting on the second and third shot that it is all that I focus on after pulling the trigger the first time. It LOOKS like a Garand, but it doesn't act or operate like a Garand. I don't know how to explain it, other than to note that it is a retarded semi auto action, seemingly minutes slower than the M1....or the M2 Carbine, for that matter, which was the weapon issued to me after Basic Training for the rest of the time that I was in the service. Not that I had a choice, we were not Infantry MOS, which at the time, (I think) was 101?
But hell, if you like it and it suits you, my opinion doesn't matter a whole lot, does it?

Coyotes come in and Koko pulls the trigger, the smoke clears and Koko jumps up and does a fist pump and hollers yeah " I hit it" [Big Grin]

I never worried much about hitting a coyote or if it was going to drop, what I wanted to know when I walked up on one if the bullet hit where I was aiming and if it left one hole or came out other side. I always hunted as if I was using a single shot, make first one count.

Now days I take my nephew along at night and try to let him have first shot, if he misses or cripples it I just let it go. but if anyone else was with me calling I wouldn't tolerate it.

Yeah, ......... No.
All except for the jump up and holler part. I ALWAYS keep one eye out for miraculous recoveries and the other eye out for more arrivals.

El Bee; For some reason the action of the Mini-14 or the trigger has never bothered me. Probably because the only other semi-auto rifle I've ever shot is my 10-22. Ignorance is bliss and all of that.

Ko ko, it's probably my problem anyway. Having handled a few autoloaders besides the Mini 14, it's human nature to compare, and also, a matter of personal taste.

What I will say, is that the Mini 14 makes a hell of a truck gun, it's rugged, and built to take casual abuse. It's obviously not a tack driver, scoped or not, although with a scope you will be aware right away that this gun is made for standing on your hind legs and blasting at a coyote booking for over the hill. I don't know what they cost, mainly because I never seriously considered the purchase; I'm kinda sorta a one shot, one kill type myself, and bolt actions are just fast enough to score a double or triple when the opportunity presents.

I know my opinion won't cause you to sell your trusty Mini 14, and furthermore, if someone offered me one, why hell, believe it or not, I'd be tempted.

Good hunting. El Bee
