First off this is assuming Mitt gets the nomination. To help those that would have a problem voting for a Mormon, I suggest a 30 second commercial with a 12 second shot of your average Mormon service, then a 12 second shot of Jeremiah Wright's "God Damn America" service, and then the last 6 seconds Mitt saying the required "I'm Mitt Romney and I apporve this message". That would say mouthfuls.

Here in Safford Az. we have our share of Mormons. The Mormons that I know are basically clean-cut, hard-working conservatives. Most are willing to talk religion and not just lecture. Although I have a bit of a problem referring to somebody who doesn't even shave yet as `Elder` that's kind of the least of the strange (to me) aspects of the Mormon faith. A kid that I know is getting married this spring. Apparently I won't be invited to the service 'cause I'm not a Mormon, and even if I joined up there's some seniority clause to get into the outer inner sanctum. Not a big deal, but I pointed out that if John the Baptist dropped by the ushers wouldn't let him in because he's not Holy enough??? It's a weird faith. Weather or not being a Mormon will hurt Romney, I don't know. Kennedy had that `problem` of being Catholic and still got elected. All that I know for sure is that anything will be an improvement over a follower of that pathetic little insect Wright.

Yes, and after all, we voted for that idiot McCain, did we not? Having voted for McCain, (the idiot) I guess I can vote for anybody nominated by the Republican Party, as long as he has a pulse.
But, considering what happened last time, we could wind up with a hold nose and vote situation, (again, like last time)
Romney is starting to look pretty good/acceptable, considering the lineup.
Huntsman is out, Paul is out, Bachmann is out, and Gingrich is looking like he doesn't have what it takes. For the life of me, I can't see why Santorum is not doing a lot better than he is?

I'm with you LB on Santorum. When he has a chance to speak at the debates he's articulate and seems to know what he's talking about.
I've never understood how Ron Paul ever got elected much less re-elected. Bachman's voice drives me crazy. I'm not crazy about Rick Perry either. Newt is smart and I liked him when he was Speaker. I believe he has finally grown up. Mitt has been the tortise in this entire race, slow and steady. Why not vote for a Mormon? Look what's in the WH now.

Koko: my family comes from the town of Pima just 9 miles west of Safford. My dad and grandfather were born there. My grandmother was born in one of the Mormon settlements in Mexico. I have been in more than a few boring and sedate Mormon services.

I'd vote for a ham sandwich instead of the HNIC.

Az; Yeah, there are quite a few families that have been in this area for several generations. It's a neat area with a lot of history. I'm going over to Cluff Pond tomorrow to do a little fishing. Pretty place early in the morning.
Ever been to a Shaker service??? Them folks know how to get wild!!!
Funny how one guy comes along a couple of thousand years ago with this idea that we ought to all be nice to each other and we end up with all of these different versions of the Christian Religion.

It could be that there are several editions of the Bible and the focus on various gospels? But hey! apparently, there is only one Koran....or is it Quran? Such a peaceful, beautiful religion. I'm fresh out of muslim accommodations. From here on out they get no privileges, no considerations, they don't even get the benefit of the doubt. Merry Christmas!

No, I've never been in a shaker service. I think those folks that handle the snakes have to be the craziest folks around.
My dad was offered a job at Cluff's Ranch after returning from WWII. It is the only job offer where they came to him. The guy that took it ended being head of the G&F LEOs in the 60s and 70s. I believe his name was Tom Barnes but I could be wrong about that. That area has nice year round weather if it wasn't for the summer time nats. It is a little cooler than Phoenix but not that cold. I need to get down there and try some calling. Haven't been near there in at least 10 years. What type of fish do they have in that pond? [ December 20, 2011, 04:40 PM: Message edited by: Aznative ]

Leonard, the Catholic bible has one less or one more book than the protestant version. The other books like Luke and John are the same so they are all basically the same. I believe the issue is interpretation of the reader/preacher.
The Mormons have three other books they read. The Doctrine and Covenants is the book that has the polygamy clause. I believe that most of these religions that advocate polygamy do so because the founder wanted an endless supply of Cute Young Things(CYT) IMHO. My great grandfather had four wives. When we were at a family gathering, my mom brought out this article that told about his several missions and how he had four wives and 20 plus kids. My sister and I started joking how the church bribed him into going on those missions for another 16 year old. It didn't go over too well to say the least. BTW: my wife and sister say I look like the dude. If anyone wants to read a good book about mormons read "Under the Banner of Heaven" by Jon Krakauer. He also wrote "Into Thin Air" and "Into the Wild".

Yeah, thanks, I'd love to check it out but I really need to organize my sock drawer. Maybe later?
You know who looks like Brigham Young, don't you? Yep, our buddy Paul Melching. Spitting image.

That whole polygamy thing is another public relations issue that the Mormons (and therefore Romney) have. We keep hearing about it still going on. If it was a case of some guy building a harem of wives by helping crack addicts recover and getting hookers off of the streets, few people would care. Unfortunatly, what we usually hear about is some fat old guy marrying 14 - 15 & 16 year olds. That's just wrong, and even more importantly, it's not 'green' to have a lot of kids these days. Carbon footprint & all that.

There are plenty polygamists in Utah, and just about anybody will point them out, (their settlements) for a tourist.
And, amazingly, they say the wives all get along famously. Maybe we should try it?

BTW; Cluff's Pond has the standard issue warm water spiney rays, catfish & stocked trout in the winter. Also a handful of White Amur for weed control. The pond is really nice when you've got the place to yourself. Less so when the crowds start to show up.
