So I guess the message here is that Americans still adhere to the principles of "fear and loathing" (as you so succintly put it previously), and refuse to educate themselves as to the realities of the world.
Heh, who am I kidding, Americans refuse to educate themselves PERIOD. We sit around whining about immutable truths (oil prices, climate changes), yet we ignore any information that might help us make an informed decision.
I blame all of this on CNN. If it wasn't for the information overload that we are subjected to daily, we might pay more attention to the things that are important to us. Our children might start focusing on what's more important to them.
But that's not going to happen with the TV on 24/7.
