Does anybody have firsthand experience with a mixed breed coyote? There are some that say it’s not possible, due to the coyote breeding cycle. Hard to turn down a stiff dick, but people have convictions and doubts. For a long time, I myself was very sceptical. Any opinions, half baked, or well considered?

I wish I had taken more precise measurements. But, I held this animal by the back legs with my arms resting on the top of my drives side door while I was standing on the the floorboard. My truck, a half ton Dodge with a 6’ lift.

The front legs were just touching the ground. He was uniform gray pelt, looked coyote as hell, ears, snout, body conformation except the legs were unusually long. Yes, and overall coyote gray with one exception; his ears were completely black. I cot the ears and had them in my freezer for the longest time, but don’t remember tossing them? As far as body weight, he must have went a good 50 pounds? That’s all the description I recall? Shot responding to a call, came in bold, about 50 yards, flattened him. Very good looking animal. Taken on the Papago, within 5-10 miles of a village on the east side.

All I can say is he had a decidedly coyote attitude, didn’t approach like a dog, at all. That’s all I got. This animal made a good argument towards coyote/dog hybrids. I have seen a couple really odd looking coy/dogs. but this guy really looked the part.

I mention this after watching a Beckman video about a coyote X dog cross.

[Confused] What would the point of that be ???
I doubt that it would make for a better house dog / pet. Maybe adding something into a pack of coon hounds ??

she does it to remove some of wildness(pets) and also to take value from the hides so they worthless as far as putting up fur.
I think if you do google on coydogs she may pop up, they not what I would call a pretty dog, more like a mutt.

Her theory kind of backfired though as southern hunters consider a coydog a trophy to get tanned. (more nuts)

I would think that if she's breeding dogs into the coyote population with the intent to degrade fur value that it might cross some legal lines.

Not really. most states don't give coyotes protection other than humane statis if someone uses them to train dogs and has their mouths taped shut or something else.

[Eek!] [Eek!] Wow !! [Eek!] [Eek!]

I went to Google and typed in 'is it legal to breed coyotes with domestic dogs and then release them back into the wild'.

Turns out that it's highly illegal at State and Federal levels. Criminal penalties and civil liabilities can apply. Fines can be serious big bucks.

Just a bad idea. Sounds like this gal is stepping on her own dick.

Yeah, I do not see a legitimate purpose? Also, I heard that a good percentage of the cross breeds are infertile? Like a Mule?

Koko not sure it be illegal in the states that list coyotes unprotected. here they are considered a furbearer so protected somewhat, but season also open year round. it no longer requires a state or out of state lic.

If the Feds are involved, that would likely be U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services. They play by their own rules, not caring about State laws.

Well, that classification of “FUR BEARER” so far as I know, has never been applied to coyote. They are classified here as Non Game, and specifically excluded from being a regulated furbearer. So, that puts them in a completely un regulated category. FUR BEARER would subject coyote to rules and regulations and currently, here at least, they have no protection at all.

From Google search; 'is it legal to breed coyotes with domestic dogs and release them back into the wild'

Answer;

No, breeding coyotes with domestic dogs to create 'coydogs' and releasing them into the wild is illegal across virtually all jurisdictions in the United States, including Arizona.

Then follows a few paragraphs of exactly why this is illegal.
