We were down south, not lost, but attempting to gain our bearings. Stopped at what they call a tank, which is a semi natural and semi constructed pond for stock watering. They are constructed so that a natural wash, or gully terminates in a donut shaped earthen structure many moons ago and consequently, is surrounded by mesquite trees and assorted desert shrubs and attracts various wildlife; I once observed a Cara Cara, which is the National bird depicted on the Mexican flag, and I had casually assumed that it was an eagle. No, but it is a large raptor with distinctive markings and prefers walking to flying. Anyway, these tanks attract an assortment of wildlife.

So we were parked outside and got out to stretch our legs, me, my so, and Bob. We were studying a large paper that didn’t have enough detail to show a tank but we were just trying to get from point A to point B.

We had been there 5 or 10 minutes when I looked up at the top of the berm, about 50-60-70 feet distant and at the top, in an open clearing stood three coyotes very interested in whatever we were doing. Trying to not be very obvious that we had noticed them we thought about what to do? We decided to very casually get three rifles and slowly to coordinate, making sure everybody had picked out their own coyote and at a signal, we all fired at exactly the same time at our picked out, oblivious coyotes.

It worked like a charm, three coyotes bit the dust at exactly the same time and we congratulated each other at a well executed plan. You know, as long as an animal is unaware that they are being observed, they are as curious as are humans.

Tame, unpressurized coyotes are like the wild burros in Bishop when they have that pioneer days thing, I forget what they call it but seems like in occurs late fall around Labor Day? IDK?

That’s the thing about burros, they need to be culled because they take over and guard water holes and prevent antelope and sheep from drinking. Yet, they are protected Federally, due to the bubbyhugger Lobby. Same with Mustangs, we have more mustangs than we need, and they should be culled, but instead, the government spends millions on rounding them up for auction by Liberals. I’m as tenderhearted as the next, but these horses get too much attention and dollars spent on their maintenance. It should be more like rat control but too much money is spent on horses that few people want. Same with wild burros. Except the burros have some value as protectors of sheep versus coyotes. Kinda like big dogs Great Perionese(sp) you know what I mean?

And, fucking predator control in Nevada! They say that there is a $5 from hunting licenses that is targeted for air patrol, coyote control, which can’t be justified. But it sounds legit. Unneeded and unnecessary, but the anti-coyote crowd has control.

Lot’s of situations that need address, O well?

Wild Burros;
Over the years in addition to the usual coyote, fox, bobcat I've called in bears, mt. lions, javelina, ranch dogs, a hippy and an A-10 Warthog.

Exciting times, all. But .......

The only time that I was really a wee bit concerned about my pink & tender hide was when I called in a herd of wild burros in Nev. Fine looking beasts but they were without a doubt the most aggressive critters I've ever encountered. Not until I stood up, waved my arms and yelled a couple of times did they grudgeingly back away.
....... and God help ya if you actually shoot one of these Federally Protected symbols of the old west.

I had a guy tell me once, that he killed 50 burros in Death Valley. With a 17! From Ambush around a water hole, or was it a dry lakebed? Guy’s Name was Dick Dochef, a tubby guy known for never getting his truck dirty, or even dusty. Besides that, he was kind of a bullshit artist, lived with his mom. Never killed very many predators, kinda specialized inKit Fox, which aren’t even scored i the CSVCA. And, hunted alone, I think because he didn’t really hunt a lot, he would get a motel, or maybe the Cottontail Ranch. Strange dude.He had at different times, a spanking new Toyota Land Cruiser, and a New Ford Pick up, said he got top dollar for it and everybody snickered behind his back that it was because it never left the pavement! Maybe club hunts were where he got all of his dates, you know, spend the night in a cat house? All speculation! He was one of those 17 dudes. Actually the first person I ever knew that shot one. It was before the 17 Remington, I think a Javalina? A bit of a weird dude, you know typical Seventeen shooter! Ha Ha just kidding, just kidding! Victor, you know I love ya, man! Just teasing.
Vic’s the real deal! I’m serious! Tim tooedit: 🦹‍♂️
