I see the fish and game commission is having a hearing today to stop coyote hunting contests in your stupid state of California.I hope they don't ban them but then your up against a lot of stupid un informed ignorant asses. Good luck. May the votes be with you.

You know, it's not the kind of thing that is ever going to be on the ballot in Utah, but I think even here, most Joe Q. Public non-coyote-hunting-voters would be against contest hunts.
The state outlawed big buck contests decades ago and there was very little resistance.
I, personally, wouldn't mind seeing contest hunts go away, but I'd vote to keep them. Just because I take a dim view of them, doesn't mean I should stop anyone else from participating.

Yes, sure. And, the stupid clubs are against the contests. Talk about stupid stupidity! Yes, the predator hunting clubs, that started the whole thing over fifty years ago are now against contest hunting. A wedge issue. Major wedge issue. Never hurt a damned thing, but here comes the emotion and the drama and suddenly, this is the whole problem...HUNT CONTESTS !
I need to get out of this stupid state!
Good hunting. El Bee

Fixer-upper next to me is for sale. 35 thousand. 3 acres. End of a dead end dirt road & backs up against BLM land. (Ok, it's a dump & it needs a lot of work)
But hey, it you'd rather live in Calif. & count your coins and blessings...........

I'm sure all the control freaks will sleep easier, tonight.
Now, what is the problem this is supposed to solve, again?

Been getting a little feed back on this issue.
Here's how I feel about it. I don't really care for NASCAR, so I don't go, don't spend money on it, don't care who wins.
I'm pretty much burned out on NFL football, don't watch it and don't care.
I learned a lot by hunting contests over the years. Never promoted it but if someone likes the competition, I don't see where anyone else is affected. I know that some people have an opinion, but these are people that probably shouldn't participate. I don't see why they feel the need to stop me from participating?
In the CVCA, we had cash prizes one year in the very early 1970's. I actually won about ten bucks by placing seventh. So, it was a modest effort and still we could see that money brings out the worst in people. Cheating, for example.
Thereafter, we awarded trophies, not even merchandise. You would be surprised what people would do to win a belt buckle, so nothing is perfect by any means.
I have a closet full of trophies and a drawer full of belt buckles and quite a few knives that have never been used to cut anything, but all that shit is just mementos of a successful hunt.
I fail to see what everyone is all worked up about? Who thinks they accomplished a good deed by passing a rule concerning something they don't do and never participated in, but feel that other people need to stop doing something they like to do.
It never occurred to me to try and pass a rule forbidding NASCAR, I think it's enough that I don't watch it on TV or buy their shit.
As far as opinions among predator hunters and club members; much of the animosity centers around jealousy. They can't kill ten coyotes and have a hard time believing that someone else can. Without cheating, that is.
So, in that respect, the situation will never change. But, while some still bitch about bass tournaments and big buck contests, other people want to participate and for the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would want to stop people from doing what they enjoy, and what used to be legal, but now the busybody's have made it illegal, right up there with poaching and using a barbed hook in protected waters.
Personally, I think it's pathetic. Just don't do it. why do we need regulations for something so innocuous?
I see it no different than a wager for breakfast. I think, in general, we have way too many unnecessary regulations.
Just a personal opinion. LB

I wish someone had pointed out that vintners and wine producers are suffering form the damage coyotes do to grapes. That may have affected the attitudes of some brie eating white wine sipping weenie liberals.
It was a long time ago but I always looked forward to club hunts. Not so much the call in hunts but the hunts where we met up at some remote spot to check out and back in again. All we ever won was trophies. Mine are in the dump in Juneau, Alaska. At the time of my divorce my then wife decided I didn't need than anymore. Since they were displayed near my reloading gear in the garage she was probably right.

I notice you didn't use any derogatory descriptive nouns but that's typical of a vindictive female. She must have been pissed, and you might have misbehaved?
But, yes that call in shit was really stupid. Our club never did it even though we did not suspect our members of cheating. But, why afford the opportunity? You can call in from anywhere, like in another state.

NV Walt, do you still make calls? I've heard great things about them and would be interested in buying one.
