Topic: Del Western and Bill Dudley?

I do a lot more reading then posting, the past few years I have been collecting predator calling cassettes and converting them to MP3, my collection to date is over 400 cassettes. Recently I turned my attention to 45 calling records to convert to MP3. One of the first records I acquired was a Circe featuring calling by Bill Dudley 1960 Arizona champion varmint caller, side B was Del Western who according to the label called in 495 coyotes in 18 weekends of calling. I was curious if anyone had more information about these two men other then the few snips to be found on the web.. Thanks

Never actually met the man, but I have hunted the same areas as Bill Dudley. High numbers are the rule, hard to believe, but I would believe anything, hunting on the Res.

After a lot of hiss and pop removal, I ended up with about 3 minutes of calling from each Del and Bill plus 7.5 minutes of conversation about hunting and Circe mouth calls, the secret to both mens calling success? the game changing Circe Ground Blind of course.

The first Arizona/California meet I went to, probably in '64 or '65, I met Bill and Sam Dudley. On Saturday morning checkout Bill failed to show up on time. Apparently too drunk to make it. Sam won the hunt with 8 coyotes all taken calling daytime.
I never heard either of them call.

Thanks for the welcome, you helped me with some hard to find Dennis Kirk cassette for my library. I finally managed to round up all of his cassettes EXCEPT crow owl fight. I try to avoid
Minaskas board, since my BC has basically been nothing but a paper weight since I bought it almost 2 years ago, hopefully Steve and Tony will have a solution before next fall.
I managed to convert Johnny Stewart 202 Crow & Owl and 205 Crow Fight from 45s to MP3. Record rips are a lot harder to clean up then rips from cassettes. I'm going to have to recruit snowcamoman to help with a few more stubborn recordings.

To drunk to safely fish... On a previous trip he was hooking a bluegill for bait, instead he ran a 9/0 daiichi circle hook through the fat of his palm between thumb and fore finger... That trip pretty much ended our fishing partnership.

Mitch Cain use to come to the PVCI meetings years ago. Mitch's father was an early pioneer in this sport and passed away years ago. Mitch's mother makes the metal reeds used by many of the call manufacturers and Mitch's brother markets Modern Calls. Mitch brought in a very old 8mm home movie, circa early 60s, that was filmed down on the Tohono o'odham reservation. There was about 4-6 callers wearing street clothes. One I remember was wearing a suit with a cowboy hat like a country western singer would wear at the Grand Ole Opry. They all set up blinds. Once they got started they must have called in a dozen coyotes. It sure would be nice to have a honey hole like that today if one exists.

It wasn't a honey hole it was the blind doing it's thing. Using that official blind was sure to double your kills.

I'm convinced that they still exist, it's just a question of whether a paleface has the balls to call them. How long has it been since you've had balls, Leonard? Don't take that the wrong way cuz I sure don't trespass on Injun land anymore either.

They sometimes have a Bazaar in front of the Bashas market in Sells. I stopped at a stand run by a woman who looked a whole lot like Queen Latifah. So I flirted with her as she flipped a burger for me. And the rest is history. (mostly true story)
Papagos, (the Bean Eaters) are rather stout heavy set people, for the most part. On the other hand, I have seen some very attractive Navajo and Hopi women, here and there.
