My old trapping partner sent me this picture of a fox he caught today. Look close to see where he was caught.

And here is one my friend is holding that I caught by a ball of cuckleburrs on his side.
I remember the lure I was using was called Steppenwolf by Ray Milligan. Changed the name to Rollnwolf.

Edit to add this....Years ago trappers used two traps attached to one drag at each set. The old man who taught me a lot about trapping caught two reds at one set. One in each trap at the same time.

That's whack! Caught a red once by the elbow. In a pasture where I always get lots of coyotes. Figure he must have belly crawled in to the trap in a submissive stance, or just staying low. Also caught a crow once by the beak. Or, I should say, I caught a crow's beak because that's all there was there when I got there. Told the guy with me to be looking for a crow with a big-assed grin on his face. BTW, that Steppenwolfe from Milligan use to be "the shit". Was a big fan of both I and II.

Wonder if it wasn't a "digger" and got a little more than it bargained for.

Did he say anything about that Randy?

Had some beaver snares set once and it rained loosening up the soil stakes etc. Caught the beaver in 5 snares as it worked down the narrow creek until the 5th stake held. One helluva a tangled mess!

Randy.....He hadn't had any problems with a digger, so if he was one, it was his first and last offense. LOL

Kinda on the same note. One time I was in the house and heard a pecking outside. Ran out to see a pair of red-headed woodpeckers fly off from the peak. They had already drilled a 2 inch diameter hole through the 3/4 inch cedar siding and were starting on the OSB.

Loaded the shotgun, sat on the porch and waited.I heard them again and stepped around the corner. Now woodpeckers are kinda hard to hit because they fly in a looping manner, but I managed to kill one. Problem solved. Go back inside.

A few minutes later I again hear pecking. Got the extension ladder and a number 11 trap which is a 1 with an additional spring. I positioned two screws below the springs and slid the pan directly over the hole. Went back inside and waited.

This time it was ping,ping,ping,....snap. I took a look and had that SOB around the neck. Dead as a hammer.

Now before I get TA'd, I know they are protected, but those two weren't.

I WAS UP AT LAKE SHASTA, (oops) a couple years ago. There is a campground right close to I-5. All the buildings look like swiss cheese. It's almost comical. Yeah, woodpeckers are generally protected. But, at some point.....

Good hunting. El Bee
