How many of you have seen Bill Martz's coyote calling video? Do any of you call like that? Seems to me, the key for that to work is twofold. One being the locating and two being able to get in to where they live without being busted. What do you think? Could I increase my success by calling this style?

I haven't seen his video. What exactly is his `style of calling` and how does it differ from my own style that most closely resembles Idiot Orientation day at Camp Run-Amok????

I saw something years ago, seems like he had a dead deer or something? The thing that struck me the most was the guy shooting couldn't hit his ass with both hands.

Other than that, if he has an instructional video, I don't know? He's a big fan of ambient sounds, birds chirping, stuff like that. It's like somebody setting out a blue heron in a mallard spread as a confidence decoy.

Good hunting. El Bee

Essentially it is this: Locate the night before to find the core area, move in as close as you can the next day, call with coyote vocals, get them aggressive, get them more aggressive using aggressive coyote vocals, then give them something they can handle like a distress sound or coyote distress or fox distress. Basically working on their territorial instincts.

I'd rather make 15 stands in good country and hope to call ~10 coyotes. Stuff like what Martz preaches might be gospel in other parts of the country, but not where I live and hunt.

Have you watched the video Jimanaz? If so, did I describe it correctly?

Ok, take this for what it's worth, YMMV, etc.

There are a number of callers that I would classify as `niche callers`. They have found something that works in their own terrain & conditions, and it works well for them.
Our own Tim Anderson is an example; He & the Crew have found a method of working the coyotes section by section, successfully. You go, girl.
The problem arises when someone who has figured out how to be successful in one area gets on a soap-box and proudly proclaims it to be The Truth, because what works in one area may well be useless in another. Take Aaron's own state of Washington; East side & Wet side. Two entirely different situations that call for different hunting techniques & equiptment.
Best advice I can give; take in everything that you can and see how it applies to YOUR situation, and keep an open mind. What doesn't apply in one spot may be useful a few miles down the road.

Disclaimer; No Tim Andersons were injured or killed in the making of this post. [Big Grin]

Hurt, killed or injured? Perhaps not, but he still has to be a bit shaken up, no?

I think our (other) own, the Sham Wow "dispenser of sage advice; koko" has hit on a universal truth. Which is: When in Rome.....

What looks good in Vermont, will not interest hunters in sagebrush country.

I heard, through the grapevine, that Bill Martz was refused entry into Canada on a flight, turned around in the terminal and sent back home. Convicted felon, persona non grata? Anybody?

Good hunting. El Bee

Don't know. I had a friend who went up there and was detained & questioned. They asked if he had any felonies, he said no, & they accused him of giving false information, attempting to enter their country illegally, on and on. Turns out that they consider a D.U.I to be a felony and will refuse entry over that.
Mayhap Bill's problem was as simple as that??

I have one of Bill M. video's which I bought when I purchased my Atom.. It has some good info in it and well worth the money. Perhaps if Koko would have seen it and applied some of what is talked about in it he wouldn't be so quick to run off at the mouth. Yeah there is some info or tatic's that don't work everywhere, but then again there is some that does most any place you call.. Most week-end callers are lazy, they don't want to walk very far and they just want to call in what's easy and don't want to put the time into it...

As for a part of Bill's vid. he talks about making coyotes aggressive or pissed off to the point they can't take it any longer and come running in.. You need a rough idea of what coyote you are calling to like YOY, 2-3 yr. old, adults, breeding pr. and so on and only work up in aggression to what they can handle. For example a male challenge howl may not be a sound to use early in the season with a lot of YOY around unless you are just after the adults.
Bill shares some of the pieces to the big puzzle and they will help make you a better caller and more successful.. Some of his info works here on my chicken-shit coyotes as well as S.D. coyotes so its not limited to just a few areas and know some of the info in the vid will also work in other places like AZ. If you have adult breeding pairs and terr. coyotes it will work, simple as that..... [Big Grin]

Tim,
No disrespect was intended. You've got a technique that works in your area but would be hard to apply in mine. Like I advised Aaron; keep an open mind & go with what works. Ladders are another example. I know that some callers sing the praises of a step ladder. In my area, I have one stand where a ladder would be useful & if I run across a deal on a ladder at a yard sale, that stand will have a permanent ladder. The rest of my stands, not so much.

As far as Bill's video, if I get a copy, yeah, I'll watch it. If there's something in it that I can use, I'll use it. Open mind & all that. Hell, I have one stand where my back is toward approaching coyotes so nothing is off of the table. If I think that it will work, I'll try it.

Yeah, I know. I'm shocked! Shocked!

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: besides, koko could certainly use a friend/butt buddy, and Timmy is reaching out. (chuckle)

leonard. i'll give you credit all day long but not on this one.
Tim is who he is.............. you ai'nt changing that. he's got no where else to go.
when Koko goes to aunt funeral in NewYork (hypothetically) and decides to bring a rifle because he want to try shooting a NY coyote, somewhere down the line, Prickface will chime in saying its because he sent Koko a vid showing him how to do it. trust me [Wink]

A side note Cabela's shelves are starting to fill back up and I managed to finally get some 22 mag. ammo.. No 22 L.R. to be found yet and powder is coming in slowly..

Oh, (edit: TA) and he reminded me that he sent me a couple of magazines for my new Browning 22, for which I am grateful and thankful and told him so.
