I hit a few spots today very early last Friday dark am to scout another antelope area and do some early calling.
1st set I dropped a young male at 70 yds just as daylight was showing on public land and about 3 min into my set when it came balling into the baby fawn & puppy whines.
Hit the truck & went under the bridge and just about ran over another young coyote...it split before I could grab my gun. It may have been coming into my 1st set since it was maybe 800 yards from there.
Next spot about 1/4 mile from the truck & 5 miles from the 1st spot walking down into some bottom land I see a big buck antelope trot off as it sees me, then I see a dang young coyote running from the creek up the hills and it stops when I drop and throw a bark at it with my call, it was about 700 yards up the hill at that time.
Well lucky me, another young one pops out of the creek bottom and just stands on the other side looks at the one up the hill...Bam dropped it @ maybe 145 yds.
I move 700 yds and play for 20 min....nothing except another nice antelope buck and 5 point whitetail moseying through w/no concern about the sounds then lays down about 300 yards out from me in the scrub brush.
I move 1.5 mile on the same state land near a corral play for 28 min a mixture of coyote over antelope fawn distress and throwing in some young barks on my mouth call let things stand quiet for 5 min, then I stand up and of all things I have a pair trotting into me from a blind hill side that I can only see when I stood up, they spin on a dime and split while I thump my head on a fence post going...you dummy!
I stopped at 830 am, hit up the ranch manager for coyotes & p-dogs...got that.
I did this today basically to scout the area for antelope and hit a few ranches up for coyote access. I ended up with 1 yes, 2 I shoot them myself w/friends but when I told them about my night hunting setup they both said they would like that & will call.....we will see.

3Toes,

He was scouting Antelope for the upcoming season and it sounds like he may have run into a few Coyotes in the process.

I don't think Wyoming Antelope (Rifle) starts for a few more months??

I know some areas of Wyoming it starts out with Archery first and then moves into Rifle season after that.

Terminator

I'm sure you were trying to be helpful and give Cal some information about antelope hunting in Wyoming. You should know that, not only does he guide antelope hunters there, he also has the state record antelope. Cal wouldn't say much about it, but it is an absolute monster.

So I guess my question would be?

If he is an expert in Wyoming why would he be asking some body if they are hunting Antelope when in fact the season is not open?

Wouldn't a guide know whether season is off or on?

I am confused I guess!

3 toes I will be hunting just N of Cheyenne again.
I got my reduced antelope doe tag today also, so 2 more for the freezer come October 5th when it opens.
I did not have a camera w/me & my cell don't take pictures either. I was going very light last Friday.
Nothing back from the ranchers, but I really don't expect that until haying slows down.
I saw 7 nice antelope bucks all from at least 10" to what looked like 13"...3 big boys looked that big. All were alone but in the same 3 mile area.
I will be back out next week scouting/calling.
I am more for meat than anything else, if I get a nice one that's good & if not that's as well.
