well mateing is over so its time to ask. Anyone use the estrus chirp or wimper this season and if so how did it work for you????

The whimper did do much for me and I didn't use the chirp, but the submissive on the other hand was money for me again this last late season.

I've dabbled with the two sounds, and have had no luck.

The sounds are used as part of my - any port in a storm- calling style. For me, it's a last ditch effort call, last stand of the day, might as well try it, hail Mary.
I've used the sounds alone and in concert with others.

Chris have you ever heard the coyotes make a chirping sound at night when calling to them????

Posted by Az-Hunter (Member # 17) on April 19, 2013, 11:34 AM:

Are estrus chirps, elicited from the females, easily descernable from the penile peeps vocalized from the males?

Posted by Chris S (Member # 3888) on April 19, 2013, 12:26 PM:

No, I've not heard a coyote make the sound in the wild.

Cal has proven that the "sound" actually is real, and he has recordings of real coyotes making said noise. Problem is, we don't know for sure what that sound means. I believe it is a sound of submission, or pleading for attention maybe.

There are chirping noises made by coyotes at different times. I have seen the video where they were claiming the coyotes were making estrus churps.(don't know for sure thats exactly what it is or not.) I have also seen and heard first hand some type of noise similar to that at different times of the year and for different purposes. Are they related in any way?(I don't know). I was calling a big sagebrush draw running left to right in front of me with fingers that ran up the side of the hills towards me. As I had been calling a couple of minutes I notice 5 coyotes headed my way, with one ahead of the others by quite a bit. As the lead coyote came up the hill in front of me it stopped about 75 yards from me and turned towards the others and started making a series of fast shrill type churping noises. I assumed he was encouraging the pups to hurry up and get up there. He didn't continue on towards me until the 3 pups had caught up to him. The bitch was noticable bigger than the pups and brought up the rear. After the pups caught up they came running hard my direction. I killed the first one up the hill which was the old male and one of the pups with a shotgun. That is how I know the one making the churping type noises was the old male of the family group. The churping noises he was making had nothing to do mating and estrus.
