What's the deal on Shockwave? Should I donate my CS24L to the Goodwill?
I know a few people have got their hands on a Shockwave...right, Cal?
Variable pitch, two sounds, bounce between speakers? All of this stuff is effective, must have?
Come on, don't sugar coat it, do we need one?
PS Does it come with a pack mule, and anti-squeak zert fittings?

I don't have a Shockwave, but I can tell you this - I would have gotten better use out of taking 4 $100 bills and wiping my ass with them, and then flushing them down the toilet, over purchasing the Mojo Double "Trouble".
It has enough "white" noise to wake the f'n dead....

When people ask ME about the Shockwave I tell them that it is probably a good call, but there is no way that it could hold a candle to a CS-24.

El Bee;
Someone has to be the one to tell you this;
The CS24L was an ok caller `back in it's day`.
It is now totally retro and somewhat embarrassing that the owner of an inter-net board would be seen with one in the light of day.
I want to help............Tell ya what I'll do;
There's a Goodwill near me. Drop the caller off at my place & have a root-beer on your way home from El Paso. I'll see that it goes to a good home.
I'll even loan you a JS512 to hold you over 'til you get up to speed with the latest technology. (Now, THAT was a caller!!!)

The shockwave is a nice machine. But for me personally I will stick with the CS 24 for most of my calling.

I remember Scott Hampton was in the market for a new Foxpro and ended up not getting the Shock wave and picked some other FoxPro model (maybe CS24)..
Its got a lot fancy knobs though..

Welcome to The New HuntmasterBBS.com, Fur-n-dirt. Glad to have you on board.
Umm? Your post is a little confusing? The CS24 has zero knobs, just one miniature toggle switch.

The root-beer offer's still good, even if you do insist on sticking with a caller that would be right at home in an Amish buggy.

Mine is new so hesitate to say much except so far it's performed perfectly.
Volume?Bear said he was listening to me 2 miles away in NoDak.
Sound quality?Best I've ever heard but, hey, that's subjective as hell.
Portability?I'm a backpack guy and it's a HELLUVA
lot better than carrying that speaker for me.On the other hand it's not light and not near as convenient as the Fury.
Speaking of speaker(s),is the fold out, directional thing a gimmick? Not sure but starting to think it isn't and has some value.I have read some don't like how the 'fold outs' connect but zero problem for me so far.
Remote? Now there is a unit worth buying the package for.BEST ever.See it,feel it,work it with gloves on,DAMN good.Range is more than enough and as good as any I've seen except homemade ones.A TON better than the WT!(I just got a 'homie' that is unbelievable on that score.:-))
Misc features?Lots. Some very nice and I'll use them. Some I'll never figure out or use but...???
Bottom line?No regrets at all and still learning it.
LB,good unit but I'd wait and see til the 'new' year arrives. They likely will offer that remote with a Fury type, then portability would make a decision really tough. My 2(deflated)cents.

But, like Cal said, it looks like a helluva unit, but the CS24 just suits me a bit better I think.

A note to Cal.Cal I think that remote is near perfect but if you have any pull, consider suggesting to them that they should consider making the 'mute' button larger. If it was the size of the 'play' or 'back' buttons,I couldn't imagine a better design.
And,this morning I think the fog saved a 'barker' that came a longgggg way to your sounds.I was downwind about 100-120 yds from the Shockwave and could see close to 200 beyond that but he still got downwind of me in the fog.(and I had backed off a fenceline 40 yds thinking he(they)wouldn't go beyond downwind of the sound but not far enuf. He(it)crossed the fence and went further.Had Bear been with=all over as he is usually 300 or more downwind.Oh well, another day.
PS Note to self. After a winter storm, even in mid April, leave the snowshoes in truck.

I have both a CS24B and a Shockwave. I'm still partial to my CS at this point, but I haven't used the Shockwave enough to do it justice yet. I will say this though. If FP could offer the CS24B with the remote from the Shockwave they would really have something. As DiYi stated the Shockwave remote is really well designed. In fact it's the most user-friendly remote I've ever come across of any e-caller out there. There was definitely some thought that went into the design of that remote. As for all those bells and whistles on the Shockwave, I guess time will tell if they are worth having or not.

I was reading all of the specs.on Foxpro website concerning the new Shockwave. They do not advertise the Shockwave as having the signal hopping technology like CS-24 and the Fury have. If the Shockwave lacks the signal hopping technology, it seems likely that the remote control requires direct line of sight to the caller just like the older models such as FX-5. I will call them Monday and ask about that.
Posted by DiYi (Member # 3785) on April 13, 2013, 05:31 PM:
Rich,
Don't know a thing about signal hopping tech but I was putting my truck away(ANOTHER blizzard/storm coming tonight)so decided I'd check line of sight.Put the call on the ground by my truck shed and walked to the other side of my big metal machine shed.I was approx 85 yds from the call, with the metal machine shed between me and the call, hit 'Lucky Bird' and, voila, away it went. Then ran through a series of other sounds, volume changes etc and it worked every time.Don't know if that proves anything but that's the result.

LB didn't have the pinkies on-they've been missing since my last trip with Bear. Do tight nylons count though?
Ran a couple other 'tests' however. Put my house, few trees and the metal shed between me and call with the distance being maybe 110-120 yds. It turned on only once out of a number of tries. Again, no idea what, if anything, I proved.
Posted by Rich (Member # 112) on April 14, 2013, 06:01 AM:
DIYI,
That sounds like top notch remote control performance to me. Obviously much better than some of the older units I have tested. I have had remote's fail to work when my caller was placed near a barb wire fence even.
Fx-5 remote would fail at 50 yards when batteries got low. It sure sounds like the Dillon's have their ducks all in a row these days.
Posted by DiYi (Member # 3785) on April 14, 2013, 06:15 AM:
Rich,
If I wasn't a coward,I'd try it now.Horizontal snow/rain mix.Some gusts must be approaching 50mph+.Afraid I'd lose the unit.
If the forecast is correct, the boys in NoDak will be getting it worse.Maybe 15 inches of snow with wind???
Posted by Rich (Member # 112) on April 14, 2013, 06:43 AM:
DIYI,
You have absolute PERFECT conditions for remote control testing. Place the Shockwave inside the tin shed, while you tunnel through the snow about fifty yards back. Press the GO button, and if the Shockwave plays then you have a real winner. It would look good in a FoxPro commercial as well.

Got a quick story about Cs-24 remote distance
Was hunting with my Okie peeps back in Feb. We were alternating stands regarding who called. Last stnad of the day, I was up. Ronnie left his CS in the truck...
We walk up the hill out back of this dairy, about 1/3 mile. Get set up and I hit the remote to start with Cal's howls. A few seconds later, I'm straining to hear a rabbit squalling behind us???
To make a long story, long...Ronnie had left HIS CS-24 powered up in the truck bed, and my remote signal was controlling it from way up the hill at our stand location! When I changed a sound, our "truck bunny" would change too. Only thing was, our sound lists are configured differently, so my preset sounds and Ronnie's were not jiving...
No coyotes called on stand. Least not toward where my CS was, can't say of the "truck bunny" had any takers, LOL
Clear line of sight, 600yds. Remote had the high ground to broadcast signal, but that's still pretty impressive!
Posted by ursus21 (Member # 3556) on April 15, 2013, 09:07 AM:
I went through several CS24's before I got one that would work correctly. The first one wouldn't work beyond 30 yards and there couldn't be anything between me and it. In fact if I had my rifle between it and the caller it wouldn't work. Drove me crazy, so I sent it back. Got a new remote. Worked a little better, but then the speaker crapped out. Sent that back and got a whole new CS24 with a new transmitter. That transmitter lasted about 3 months and then went south. By this time I was getting a little hot under the collar or is that caller? Anyway I called Mike Dillon and he made things right. He sent me a brand new CS24B with all the upgrades, bells, and whistles. I've had the CS24B for over a year without any issues and the remote transmits like it's supposed to. I'm not posting this to slam the CS callers. I'm just letting anyone who is interested in buying a new CS24B know that I believe they finally have the bugs worked out. On a side note I'm not real big on bells and whistles so to speak, but I do have to say that FoxBang is a beneficial feature. It has definitely resulted in more doubles and more coyotes hitting the ground.
Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on April 15, 2013, 09:42 AM:
That's interesting? I didn't even know there was a 24B? What's the difference?
As far as Foxbang, I have had mixed results depending on how far away I am from it, so I don't know what might be the best setting?
One thing I can mention. I called up and talked to I think it was Mike Dillon about the jacks that were getting pulled out and broken, snagged on branches, etc.
He sent me some great upgrades with 90° jacks that have shrink tubing on them. They look damned near bullet-proof, compared to all the trouble I was having with the previous type.
I also got a very worthwhile upgrade for the cradles that hold the batteries, instead of the 9V type of snaps.
Foxpro did right by me, I don't mind saying so. I hate to suck up, but it is what it is.
Also, I have no issues with distance between the remote and transmitter. Unlike my Minaska. In fact, it worked just like ursus describes his first CS24, or is that not worked?
I am a happy camper with the CS24L.
Good hunting. El Bee

I think those super 90 degree fittings were something FoxPro built up for me after a request for something that laid flatter against the caller. I needed something that was as bullet proof as possible in the cold. I have 5 of those types of 90 degree setups and they are all going strong. In fact, my old 14.8volt Li-Ion battery packs, some of them going on 6 years old now are still going strong too....love the CS-24. I've checked out the Shockwave in the store and it looks like a feature loaded caller for sure. I like the looks of that new remote and if it gets put into a CS-24 speaker setup, I'll be sure to get one. The amount of plastic and hinges on the Shockwave scares me and I'd likely break it in the cold.
Edit to add:
The CS-24B was the next generation CS-24 which has the FoxBang feature. Originally mine didn't have that, but was sent in for an upgrade and is now the same thing as the B model.

Yes, I should have mentioned that what prompted my call to Foxpro was talking to tundra about the problem. He told me about the 90° jacks they did for him and I knew right away that I needed something similar.
Right now, I have four of the new sets plus a couple back up in the 9V configuration. That's one problem solved, for sure.

Posted by Joel Hughes (Member # 384) on May 31, 2013, 11:58 AM:
Actually Leonard, JS sounds are my favorite. I did ditch the cassette tapes a long time ago though. LOL. Got some JS CD's and just copy the file from computer to the FP. Good enough quality and I think he was on to something with the pause every five minutes. The timer on the FP remote is great, and I use it at times. But hard to beat that if I sit through 2 pauses that I've made it through a ten minute stand.
I've been with my FX5 for many years, and it still works fine. But it may be time for a switch, just because.
