been hitting it hard but not finding many critters. heres a few i did find. flushed this coyote out of a roadside culvert. bout 60 yards with 3" 4 buck
a coulple of the 23 i trapped this year.
my first bobcat. a whopper male also flushed from a culvert. never heard of that happening before??. i thought it was a coyote in there till he popped out. damn near shit myself. shotgun to start with, .22 pistol to finish. my soup-hound riding shotgun looking for coyotes
and a quick tour around town this a.m. love drainage ditches on windy days.

Great photos bearhunter, thanks for sharing those. Nice looking fur on all of your animals too. How far did that bobcat go once you flushed it out of the culvert?

TW. not far. i shot him 3 times with 3"#2's copper-plated from 35-45 yards and he hardly flinched. ran back and grabbed 3 more 3" 4 lead and ran out and nailed him 3 more at about 40 yards. each time he just jumped up in the air swatting. my hands were so cold i had to go back to the truck and warm my hands as i could'nt feel them anymore. while loading up my .22 pistol, he started walking righ to my tuck and i finnished him about 15 feet from my truck. hard to believe but thats how it went down. here's a photo of him walking towards the truck. i was inside loading the pistol.
this was after taking 6 shottie rounds!! as you can see in the picture, i live in some of the flattest/barren country in the world. what he was doing out there is beyond me. [ January 02, 2013, 06:42 PM: Message edited by: the bearhunter ]

Wow, that was the Energizer cat for sure. It'll be interesting to see how many pellets went into the thing when you skin it out.
That is some pretty barren looking country you hunt. Similar to some of the stuff I hunt.

Too bad the cats got that 'muddy' spot under the chin instead of pure white.Lost a couple hundred dollars there. Just a jokin Bearhunter, just a jokin.
PS That last pic where he's heading toward your truck kind of reminds me of your wife heading your way after you've pissed her off. ![[Razz]](tongue.gif) [ January 02, 2013, 02:18 PM: Message edited by: DiYi ]

That red on the left is a nice one!
Seems like we just had a conversation here about using BB's. For anything past 15/20 yards, I have no confidence in BB's whatsoever.
Good hunting. Lima Bravo
edit: while looking for a "muddy spot" I happened to notice something. Minneesotans are some tough customers! I wouldn't be caught dead in snow country wearing sneakers!
edit: that dog looks like he's driving, and very intent. [ January 02, 2013, 05:56 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

TW, you have more terrain changes in that picture as i do in my whole county. most that have never been where i live cannot imagine how flat and barren it is. there are miles after miles of NOT 1 TREE,BUSH or hardly even a weed other than in the road ditches. when i skinned him, there were maybe 40 pellets that made it through the hide but very few penetrated the carcass. Leonard, i grew up shooting reds with copper plated BB's and have killed truckloads of them (with them). the cat was shot with 2's and 4's. i have no dought that iff'n i would have had BB's he'd have been dead first shot. crocs are regular attire here in Mn LB. we grow up tough here in the land of snow and ice (and pink panties) but thats a whole nother story!! yes, that red is pehaps 1 of the nicest i've killed in years. super cherry red and large. got him on the boards right now drying. took him through the heart at about 150 yards with my 17-204. small hole in/out.no stitching required. if the market is what it was last year, he could fetch a cool 100.00$ DiYi. as for the cat, wish you woulda been with. it's the same spot i dropped you off for the marathon snowshoe tour after them coyotes 2 years ago.. wolf hunting sucked!! 1000's of $$ and miles and i blanked out. will try trapping next time.

Croc's and pink panties must be a northern thing as they are not regular attire in my part of the state.. I have seen a few wear Croc's but they lived in the city, country boys here wear boots..
Where did you get 100.00 for a redfox? Was it just one that was different that someone had to have or were all the top grade fox going for that price??? [ January 02, 2013, 08:24 PM: Message edited by: TA17Rem ]

Leonard them Crocs he wears sure make funny tracks in his back yard don't they?Always thought he walked like a rabbit, those pics appear to confirm it. Tim,any country boy, particularly insecure ones, can wear boots. You need to be a very tough, secure, confident hombre to wear pink panties and crocs.

I wear crocks out in the yard. That's what caused me to lose my balance and fall off that ladder last year. My advice, do not climb ladders and prune palm trees wearing crocks. Besides, you look stupid.
Something amazing about crocks. Anything, the smallest grain of sand, a piece of grass, anything at all that gets into your crock and you will know it immediately. I start limping, stop and remove a shoe and it could be a grain of salt, (I shit you not) but it's extremely noticeable.
Good hunting. LB

Crocks rock, especially after a day in vapor barrier bunny boots.
Bear....you're definitely a flatlander down there. The ony really flat stuff here are lakes and rivers. [ January 02, 2013, 11:50 PM: Message edited by: TundraWookie ]

TW, I hunt a bit with him in that country.Couple a things I learned:What you think is one mile is likely three;your rangefinder won't work often;and if he says 'put on your snowshoes and go get em'.it means a walk of a minimum of 3 miles-while he rides around in his mini Taco.

Nice looking fur with no noticeable damage bearhunter. DiYi, I know what you're saying about that type of flat, white country being deceiving on distances. So do you use spotting scopes to watch areas, or just see what you can see with your eyes and then go get em'?

the years we have alot of snow is best TW. when the fields get wind swept, the drifts get hard and the fox will be quite visable on calm days. 20 years ago, it was common to see 20+ fox a day but there were no coyotes here. now its the opposite. the reds seldom "lay out" anymore which sucks as sneaking up and shooting them in their beds was (is) my favotite ways to hunt them. i miss them little buggers. i find it best to drive about 25mph and just use the eyes. sunny days can be a bit of a problem with shadows so i prefer cloudy days with lille wind. i always bring binos/spotting scope though. have snuck up on a few paper bags/rusty buckets and such in the past.

Snowshoes kick my ass. The ones I have were made by Cree Indians, wood and rawhide, long and just barely too small for me but less tiring than a larger pair would be. They work great as a snow shovel to dig out a blind, also to sit on. My glasses tend to fog up from the long trek so I have to wait usually more than five minutes before I can see clearly.
We must be nuts?
I think it's terrible that bh makes his partner walk three miles through four foot drifts while he loafs around and plans strategy. No way to treat a not very bright old guy. He will pay you back one day, bh! Reminds me of that old golf joke...."hit the ball, drag Joe. Hit the ball, drag joe."
I hope, strictly from a revenge standpoint that he drops dead at least three miles out there/make a stand, drag DiYi. Make a stand, drag DiYi.

you'de be there till spring. buzzards move south for the winter. a GOOD pair of snowshoes are a valuable asset up here LB. most guys won't use them so in a bad winter, we can acsess many miles of untouched areas. you know, the kind of stands Tim always yacks about... 3-5 on every stand(set) or whatever you wanna call it.

bear, I have around 6 different sets of snowshoes, but much prefer the snowmachine. Can you use those down there to hunt, or do they send coyotes and animals to the next county?

We can use them here to get around with just have to be standing away from the machine if you are going to shoot something. In most cases they do more harm than good.. The noise will scare them into the next mile section and if you follow with the snow machine then its considered chaseing and thats a No-No... Better to leave them at home and just snowshoe it in to a section...
