I took my wife over west of the house to try and call a cat. Stopped in at the rancher's house and he said get after it. Good looking country.
She was watching to the west, me to the south and about 4 minutes into the stand she says she saw something coming towards us. I look and see a coyote head-down loping in. Mangey too. I need to repostion 90 degrees to my right and get it done, but the coyote sees something it does not like and veers to the ditch. I get it stopped on the other side and shoot it.
She is very excited and says "Wow, that was just like a Les Johnson video". LOL

Another day hunting with a friend, we were along side a long stretch of big hills with cornfields and cattle below. He had never hunted coyotes before and about 2 minutes into the stand, I see an object headed towards us along the base of those hills. Long ways out and in and out of cover. As it got closer, I thought something was not right and looked through the scope. It was a half curl big horn sheep. LOL. Never got as close as a stupid deer and it left by climbing a near vertical hill. Muscular creatures for sure.
Another day in the sand hills with loads of sign and I could not call a single coyote. We had only shot one from the truck. Run into a rancher who says he had to shoot a cow a couple days ago and he told us where it was. We kinda know where he is talking about and head that way.
After passing the last landmark he told us, we are certain the dead cow is over the hill and park the truck to begin the approach. I peek over the hill and see a coyote headed towards us so we duck back down and get to some rocks. The coyote loafs around a bit and then simply walks back over the same hill.
Justin and I are preparing to squeak him back over when it happens. Around the base of the same hill comes a coyote carrying a deer leg with a badger chasing him and another coyote behind the badger. Damnest thing I have ever seen. I don't know if the coyote had stole the leg from the badger and he wanted it back or the badger was just following in hopes the coyote would drop it.
Anyways, we watched for a while and the coyotes/badger came into rifle range as they were strung out along the hill across from us. I just had to see what would happen if I squeaked at them. We could surely get them stopped in the flat spot below us (they always stop) LOL.
First squeak, all are coming at a dead run and I look at Justin and say we are screwed. No stopping these. Long story short, we got the badger because he lost a little ground during the mad dash.

Jeremy...been here a little less than a year.
Plenty of big horns around me. Seen an even 20 this year including a full curl ram. Had to stop for him in the road just as I was pulling onto the dirt. Massive horns, short- coupled, and strong as hell.
I have seen plenty of cool things here, but still looking for a coyote's nut sack hanging on a fence. Sorry Tim. LOL

Randy, do you live right in the wildcats? I have some friends out there and usually make it out at least once a year for waterfowl and predators.... not this year though. Nice place, plenty of cats too, can I ask what you do out there for a living.

He's a concrete contractor like Quinton. Some guys have all the luck, get the whole winter off to hunt coyotes.

Just on seeing the photo I was thinking Texas,New Mexico or Arizona for sure. I don'think there alot of guys out there pouring a lot of mud this time of year. But as I was driving home from the DMV or ODOT is what it might be called here. I did see a mud truck going west down the road and the truck did have that extra axle down so my guess is he was hauling eight to ten yards. It was at lest 18F here this morning the doors on my truck were about froze shut. But come to think of it is not that odd for some one to be pouring alittle mud in the winter. When I was 18 we uesd to pour a lot at at Vance Air Force Base back in 1976 and early 1977. R. Shaw in joy your self in yout new country
Hey LB. I got that go ahead from the TSA I was looking for.

As a kid, I worked for Challenge-Cook Bros. They call that trailer a "booster load", and yes, for up to 12 yards. Only three out of 100 could pass their welding test, vertical up and overhead, so I guess I was lucky? All while attending school four nights a week, GI Bill....seven friggin' years!
Interesting, (I thought) their core business was/is cement mixers but they also make a non-transportable version, not mounted on a truck chassis that processes hides.
Good hunting. Lima Bravo

I have played around and have burned afew sticks.I can make a puddle. there was a oil refinery in the town I grew up in it was tore down and sold for scrap. It had two coke units two crude units a large catcracker one acid unit. It's all gone now. I worked there on a lot of turn arounds or shut downs. Those fiter welders would talk alot about make a pass welding up hill and down hill. I had alot of respect for those guys. the plant was called Champlins Oil.
