Love hunting these things...hence my web-name. Got this one a few days ago in Wyoming. It's only the second colored phased bear I've killed. I was doing the happy dance after downing this one. The other bears I've killed have all been jet black.

Looks like a good one, too! Nothing wrong with black though. So, over bait or spot and stalk?
Good hunting. LB

congrats Troy. Looks like a good one. What's the story?
Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on May 21, 2012, 09:59 AM:
Yeah, we want details!!!!
Since there's no gun or bow in the picture, you must have dropped out of a tree onto the bear, beat it with your fists & then choked it to death with your bare hands?????

A friend of mine has been trying to get me to come down and hunt bears with him in WY for several years. One thing or another has kept me from going, but this year the stars aligned and I was able to go. I will admit that I was extremely lucky and it was the shortest bear hunt either of us has ever experienced. This was my 10th bear, but I've been on countless bear hunts that took much longer or often ended without me tripping the trigger. We had actually only been seriously hunting about 2 1/2 hours when this bear came out of a steep valley right below us and was headed directly away from us. We watched it as it plodded along sloooowly not really offering a shot. Needless to say I was getting just a little antsy. We were also trying to determine whether it was a boar or not, and if there were any cubs. After a while it was obvious it was alone. Then finally (seemed like forever) it turned broadside to look at it's back trail. It looked good to both of us so I sent a Hornady 165gr Interbond through it's shoulder's. Love my old 30.06!!! Killed it with one shot and then it was time for a happy dance, picture taking, and a grueling uphill (very STEEP) pack out. My pard and I are still a little freaked out about how quickly the hunt went. It is good it did though, as the weather turned really nasty for the next several days. So I am very grateful things worked out the way it did.
One more pic just for fun.

I still have time to try and find another bear here in Montana. However the weather forecast this week is sucking big time. Hope to find a break in the weather over the next week and a half. So eventhough WY was a quick hunt, I'm pretty sure Montana will kick my butt like it usually does.

WTF is in the tree in the corner of that last pic? Looks like a gremmlin to me.
Awesome pictures and hunt. The short hunts seem to take away from the experience a little but im sure you will be blessed with week long hunts the next few years haha.

On a bear stand, would you pass up a coyote?
Good hunting. LB
edit: what's this? "she's rather hunt bear than......?" I know what I'm thinking, but that's hardcore.

That's a beauty color when it is tanned or rugged. Looks like it has good hair: lots of it, fine and deep. Primo!
