I just watched Les. show tonight with some good footage as usual and noticed he is useing a few different rifles one is a Smith-Wesson AR. not sure what cal.
What really caught my eye was Les was useing a E-caller on stand and kept it right along side him and even waved it from side to side to disperse the sound.. Hmmm. Reminds me of someone I know!! maybe Rich needs to get ahold of Les and clue him in that he will loose coyotes by doing so..LOL

They probably just wanted to get Les and the ecaller in the same frame? This guy knows what he is doing and would never put the caller next to him if it was a real hunt. Not like some peeps we know. Don't you think he has earned the right to get casual? Unlike some recently banned peeps.
Speaking of which; what the hell did you do to get Fruit Loops AND the professor mad at you?
Good hunting. LB

Yep could be Leonard. Les can do what ever he wants I don't have any problems with that.. Question though why did'nt he just set it on the ground next to himself or just hold it there?? Instead he had to work it from side to side, suppose maybe that was for the viewers that can't see to good. LOL
As for froot loops and Higgy its all there in the other post I started.. Frootloops had a handfull of questionable pic.s floating around that had something to do with his bad hunting habbits. (illegal activity)
Oh by the way, I think they are madd at you again as well. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif) [ April 20, 2012, 07:06 AM: Message edited by: TA17Rem ]

May be a stretch, but it even conceivable that Les could have been showcasing a variant of the 'Buckethead "swivel" technique' to the greater masses? After all, he did see a Buckethead prototype firsthand in Okieland a few years back...

I'm sure the only reason Les holds his Ecaller in his hand and moves it around while calling is because he's calling to so many dumb western Coyotes. You could never get away with that East of the big river.lol

I sometimes wonder if we give them too much credit.
A few weeks ago I went out with hand calls and managed to piss off a pair with a howler and a talley ho. I was setup looking downwind as everyone knows they will come in from downwind, except these two. They came straight in to my left and I was able to pick up my sticks and gun, move around and kill the female all while she stood there at 70-80 yards away trying to figure out what I was doing.
I had paid attention to breaking up my outline and had intended to kill them before they got downwind. Just how much movement can we get away with? Bolt gun just for Leonard. [ April 20, 2012, 10:15 AM: Message edited by: TOM64 ]

Speaking of using sponsored material and the like. I find it interesting that Byron South doesn't use the Byron South Signature edition Remington AR, he uses another brand AR. I'm pretty sure he was shooting a Les Baer Custom AR.

This is really caca:
"Designed in conjunction with a master in the art of predator calling, the R-15 Byron South Signature Edition will chop links from the food chain as fast as you can pull the specially implemented two-stage trigger."
and then...."And our new hunting single-stage trigger design is as cleanbreaking as they come."
He might have killed a few coyotes, but "a master in the art of predator calling"? Is this how all legends are created? I hope not.

That's exactly how legends are born.....look at timmy.
Hey timmy, did Les hold the caller above his head, or call from a bridge or anything cutting edge like that?

Tim will have arrived when he is to big for the Internet, like Les and Byron. I'm thinking of something along the lines of:
The New 17'06 Anderson Magnum!

If you look on the specs page of that Remington link, you'll see that the BSSE edition of the R-15 is discontinued. So is, I believe, BS, by Remington. Hell, all those guys schlep from one to company to the next, and as far as I'm concerned, have zero credibility. That stuff works on newcomers though.

Good job on the coyote Tom.. That bolt gun laying on the coyote just makes the pic look that much nicer.. I think as long as a callers outline is broken up and blended in with the country side you can get away with some movement.. I do it most of the time getting the gun on an approaching coyote and have seen others do the same and get away with it.. I think the biggest spook factor is when a caller turns his head from side to side and the coyotes spot the shine off from the side of there face...

For sure, it explains why Byron no longer hunts with one. It wouldn't be suitable for a star like Byron to hunt with a discontinued rifle. It's probably discontinued because Byron wanted $500 for his name on each one and Remington couldn't afford him.
Yeah, it would be kool, (not to mention the prestige) hunting with a Genuine Byron South Signature Model.

If Les was waving his caller back and forth in the video, I'm sure he does it for a reason and does it more often than not. He's no dummy and if he thinks that's what works; he's gonna do it. I would suspect that there are more callers that use their ecalls within' 10- 15 yards (or closer) of themselves than people that put them out 16 yards and beyond. TA is west of the Mississippi. The coyotes are easier to call for him than they are for someone east of Illinois.

I think the AR Byron is using is made by Larue, made dead center in Texas, according to their ad.

I think your right Al on the gun brand. He also uses some goofy looking optics, something like a Halo site with a small scope that you flip up from the side when needed.. You'd think a 1 piece scope at 4x with a lighted reticle would give same results without all the fuss or extra hardware...

It seems to me that a lighted reticle would hinder a hunter rather than help him. I have no trouble seeing a standard duplex in near darkness myself. If it is light enough to see the outline of a coyote, I can see the cross hairs just fine.

Goofy like this, Tim?
If you were more open minded and not so quick to criticize, you might learn something now and then. Granted, this type of setup wouldn't be optimal for someone who calls big, open country predominantly. In tighter terrain with thick, broken cover it really shines though.
There's little fuss to it. When I sit down I determine if I'm going to leave the magnifier up, or flip it to the side depending on the shot I anticipate. Generally, if I can see farther than 50 yards in more than just a couple of small windows, I leave it up. In the instances where I may have been better suited to have carried a shotgun to a stand, I flip it off. Even then, should a target present a longer opportunity, a quick finger push on the magnifier and I'm back to a 3.75 power sight.
Magnified or unmagnified, it's a both eyes open, who cares how you're on the rifle, system. Cheek weld is unimportant as is eye relief and other idiosyncrasies that may effect POI with a traditionally scoped rifle. I can hold that rifle at arms length and shoot it like a pistol if I choose, and so long as the dot is on target, the bullet will be too.
It's definitely application specific. When I call open country it stays home or in the truck. In tight, thicker country, it's hard to beat IMO.
And just to be clear, I was using this setup before Byron ever sidled up to EoTech.

I was open minded and realized its not something I need or want for use up here.. Glad its working for you though.. Those AR with all the stuff attached to them is just begging to get caught on something... ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
