Gentlemen and Ladies
We here in Pierre SD would like to invite you all to come to the VHA range on Sept. 17th and either participate in or watch the Mr. Coyote Contest.
IMO, the only true overall contest of calling and shooting ability with shotgun and rifle in the country.
From stationary gongs at various ranges to moving coyote targets it will truly test you ability. It does have a limited number of entries so don't miss out.
Jeff can fill you in on the details either here or at the Varmint Hunters Assoc. website. If you have not seen the VHA range, magazine and the crew your missing out. Good people running a good club.
Afterwards we will have the annual grillin and chillin party in my garage to roast the new Mr. Coyote.
Does anybody want Tim's crown?? With the changing of it from the Jamboree date last year to it's own date this year I expect a better turnout than last year. So practice up and come see SD.

Tim, which of your rifles are you gonna use this year to retain your crown? Or, is that privileged information?

I talked to Charlie Bland last week... he said he's definitely thinking about making the trip.
He hadn't talked to Dave Boyer yet so you never know. I would like to make it this year but looks more likely next year for me.
I'm hoping Charlie and Dave both show up at the Effingham "Varmint Shoot" this Sunday. Katie is going to give it a try!

Have you been practicing, Tim? I just read through the contest events, looks pretty fun! Did you opt for the 500yd bonus target last year? Which was the hardest rifle leg for you to complete? I'd bet that runner is harder than it looks...

George, When we first started the Mr. Coyote contest there were quite a few bench guns... over the last few years we have changed a few things that hamper the bench guns and favor the field guns, which it was intended for but never frowned upon bench guns. I was just happy the guys wanted to play.
Calibers are limited to the Range rules of nothing over a 40 cal. However I don't see to many coyote rifles quite that big. Pretty much just your standard coyote gun per say.
Yes you can sit on a stool... but you have to stay there throughout the competition. I think Randy S used one last year and did just fine...
Hope this answers your questions...
Thanks, Jeff.

Knockemdown: No! I don't do much shooting dureing the summer... Yeah I'm a sucker for the 500 yd target everytime.. I'd say the most difficult for me is the shot-gun event due to not useing one very often.. Anyway its alot of fun to do and a good way to find out what you can do and what needs work..

George, get them eight gators shot in August, then get your azz up to SD for the contest! How hard can it be to shoot a piece of driftwood with a sluggish heartrate?
And deer in Sept? Eh, skip that jazz too. Deer hunting is a COLD weather undertaking! I only tolerate swattin' skeeters to kill one critter & that is a turkey. But I'm usually not swatting for long, so it ain't so bad...
Other than that, your priorities seem to be in order...
