Just heard from a contestant who left the check in that 12 won this year. No other information as to who the team was or any early reports on how others did.

I was told 14 won it Matt Hebbert – Hyannis, Ne. / Justin Brandon – Yuma, Co. 8 coyotes was 12th. Not a lot of teams checked back in.

Even better. From my source, most teams did best on Saturday and not so well this morning. Lots of wind north of I-80 I guess.

14 won it as Jeremy said. They started putting up the totals and stopped maybe 30% of the way through it. 12 was the highest on the pro class board when they stopped putting up tallies. Later on they just simply wrote the place taken by the teams.........still without finishing the totals on the boards. I dont know why they didnt finish the board. Usually thats part of the fun is looking at what everyone shot/saw.
Congrats to Matt and Justin and everyone else that participated. Weather sure sucked but I think it was pretty even for all of the teams though. Wanted to introduce myself to Huber but never got the chance. Hope everyone made it home safe cause the roads were pretty bad every direction but South.
Edit: thought Huber had 10 but stand corrected. Don't know where I got that.... [ January 10, 2011, 07:22 PM: Message edited by: Patterson ]

Thanks Kelly. We had a pretty good little run in Oklahoma. Won the Woodward Contest on Jan 1st and then won Elk City on Saturday. These were fun 1 day contests which makes it pretty challenging if you have a bad day. I think there were 55 teams in Woodward and we shot 15 and in Elk City there 85 teams and we shot 12.
I didn't get to meet him but Clay Reid shot 8 in the Elk City contest and that won him 3rd.
I don't think I have seen a 9 pound coyote checked in at St. Francis. Thats a little coyote!

Congrats on the wins Jeremy.
Very small coyotes! We got a 14 pounder last year and it was a dink. Cant imagine a 9 pounder. All the dogs were covered with snow after he annouced the results so I didnt get to see them. I think the total was 350 or 360 some coyotes for the whole deal checked in. Roads were horrible. I am sure a lot of teams said heck with it.

One year at the World, we checked in a 12 pounder that held up until someone came in with a nine pounder. Of course, this was a month earlier, in the season. But, for whatever reason, there will be the occasional runt coyote, in January. I can think of a couple reasons.
Hey, Huber got 10? Great! He's a hard worker, I can tell you that.
Good hunting. LB

Not sure about Huber, my old calling pard Cenny Burnell won third and he told me Huber had 6 and didn't place?

Well, shit! I just remembered who won the little dog that I spoke of, above! It was Cal. They had disqualified his animal and I complained to the head honcho and he reevaluated the pup in question and overrode the initial determination.
I'm sure he must have thanked me for sticking up for him. What's right, is right. He won it fair and square, good for him.
Good hunting. LB

Yep, thought I was gonna have to shoot somebody over that one, but it turned out good. Thanks again LB! We placed also in that hunt that year, but as you stated that was at the world hunt, not the midwest. That midwest always eluded me. I went two or three times and that is the only major hunt I never at least placed at. [ January 11, 2011, 09:25 AM: Message edited by: 3 Toes ]

All I know is that you can't blame your failure to place on the prime locations you were hunting.

Objection, Your Honor. Council is leading the witness! He's not a crybaby!
It's not called "blame", it's more accurate to use the word, "reasons".
In fact, the Midwest is a difficult hunt, unless you have a real good connection.
Good hunting. LB

Objection overuled!
That's no shit Leonard! I entered one year and tried to hunt all my spots in NW Oklahoma and some spots in SW Kansas. Ended up doing more driving than killing. We had a hell of a time though and that is what's most important to me.

Huber / Denke ......6
Weather was good for us and ground conditions were perfect. I missed a couple easy shots I should have had off sticks. Don't know what that was about other than I missed. I also missed a shot at 500 and another at 550 yards off sticks. Pulled hair on the 500 yarder. Gave him a "hawkmo". Isn't that where you take a strip? Partner missed a shot at 400 yards off sticks. Other than that, fish just weren't biting at our fishing holes. Lots of dead stands even with fresh coyote sign. Just one of those head scratchers.
Overall it was a good hunt!
As always, Brent Rueb ran an excellent contest.
Congrats on the wins Jeremy and Nick. Missed ya at St. Francis.
