They say even a blind squirrel finds nuts... Nothing was cooperating 'till the 5th set. It was a set that by all accounts shouldn't have worked but sometimes you got to take your chances. I was set-up facing into the sun watching my downwind side. Ya I know I was exposed but it was the only way to call the location. At the 10 minute mark, after I changed my cadence to a flock of crows this female came in from behind me to my left. I had to swing around my shooting sticks to get a bead on her and she saw me move. Just as I squeezed the trigger the right side of my shooting sticks collapsed and I hit her in the gut. I'm always amazed at the fortitude of these critters. She put on the after burners before I filleted her from stem to sternum rupturing her hydrolics (what a mess).
Wind started to pick up but it was a nice day so I hung in there. On my last stand of the evening, after about 12 minutes of calling, I noticed something about a 1/4 mile away standing on a rock formation looking my way. I thought it looked like a coyote but the sun was setting and I knew it was beyond my skill level so I sat there contemplating. I tried a couple different tunes but no luck. I thought what the hell, nothing else is working, let me try a lip squeak. When I raised the binoculars to take a look, it was gone. The sun was fading fast and I was just about to stand up when I saw him cutting across the mesa straight for me before halting for the last time at 80 paces.
Sometimes perseverance and plain old luck wins the day. If you look carefully at about 12:00 above his ear in the clouds you can see the moon. Pretty high up considering the sun was just setting. It's kind of hard to see in the small picture but I wonder if the moon pull had an effect on my day, what say you?

Good looking country. There's something special about watching a coyote come in from a long ways away.
Theories about the moon are like elbos; everybody is entilted to a couple of them.
Best bet...........Just hunt. If that fails......Hunt harder. If THAT fails..........Lie!!!!!
