Hey guys!! Looks like everyone has simmered down some. Heres a great topic I saw on another board and it looks like lots of fun! If they can have that much fun, then bein the best site on the net, we outta pee our pants from gettin so giggly!!

If you had to sell all your guns but 3, for all types hunting, or sell all your guns to buy 3 dream guns to handle all your needs, what would they be? Not just caliber, gun type too. And, they gotta be rifles, and they gotta be bolt guns.

Ill go first. Heeeeheee, Im so excited, Im gonna leak!!

Rem 700 in 30-06 for yotes and deer.
Savage or Rem 700 in 300 win mag for deer and sutch.
Barrett 416 for long range deer, elk, doggin and yotes.

Ok KoKo, I shudda knowed you would have to try and skirt the rules. Dont think your gonna ruin our fun or Ill ban you faster than a cat can lick its ass! I will!!

Now bolt rifles only. And rifles, not shotguns. And, only one barrel per rifle.

Is that enough rules for ya? [Mad]

Typical of 'The Man' imposing too many rules. [Big Grin]

Would also need to keep a .223 Mini-14 w/hi-cap clip handy.

And a Winchester Model 94, in 30-30. Can't live out west without a lever gun. [Cool]

The only bolt action firearm I own is an old .22. It is a Remington "The Matchmaster" mod. 513-T.
I will have to hang onto that for a while...

Is this about bolt-action only?...
If not then my T/C Contender and barrels, Pre-64 mod. 94, .38 special first generation Colt Single Action Army, Browning Medalist, or my S & W 686 .357

I'm still keeping the Krieghoff double on my list, nothing more reliable in the heat of battle with the beasts.

I'd be satisfied if I could get my Browning Abolt 243 with Bushnell 4200 Elite 4 x 16 x 50 back from the thieves who stole everything. Since that isn't likely, I would pick a custom built 6mm with a top line scope.Don't hunt anything but coyotes, foxes, or bobcats so don't need any more rifles.

I'm gonna butcher the rules 3 different ways:

.243 Rem
.22 pistol
12-gauge

That eliminates a lot of my guns but I think I'd survive okay with those - bare minimum mind you. Man it would suck only having 3.

Marlin 30-30 lever gun 'cause they sound so awsome when you 'jack' a round in. Its such an intimidating sound, it scares the bad guys when they break in at night.

Possumal,
You take my 300 Win Mag and I'll take the double and we'll do ourselves some real predator hunting....maybe find that Browning Abolt 243. Maybe the sound of Rap music will lure them in? [Big Grin]

Limited to three?

That would have to mean that somehow SHTF. The first thing I'd do is ignore the rules.

1.) Ruger 77 in .270. Meat gun.
2.) Remington 870 12ga. Would like to say my Beretta Urika but over the long haul the 870 would probably be a more reliable choice.
3.) Browning 22 LR A Bolt. Assuming things were really bad I could grab this rifle in one hand and a lifetime supply of ammo in the other and head for the hills. And still have the means for a meal and be a force to be reconned with.

Tundra Wookie: I'd say a sound that mimics a cokehead snorting would do the best job. That would be a fun hunt for me.

Cross J,
I was thinking the 870 pump, because you know in all the movies they jack that slide back and forth about 4 times before they ever fire the damn thing. Got to have that stern mean look too.

1. I guess some kind of Mauser 98 clone in 30-06. Maybe a CZ or a Dakota or something like that.

2. Same thing in a 22-250

3. A nice 22lr rimfire. Another CZ I guess.

4. My shotgun and an AR in 223

OK that makes three. I'm a product of public education...

3) APS 7mm Allen Mag

I broke the rule yesterday. Went to a little gun show and came home with an older Winchester model 94 in 30-30. I had one when I was a kid and loved it. My youngest son has outgrown his youth 243 and I told him I would get him a new deer rifle. I was going to buy him a CZ 550 American in 6.5x55 Swede, like I got his brother at this age. Best gun in the safe, IMO, for deer. But he has always had a thing for cowboy guns and begged for it. I may get him something different later on, if the new wears off and he wants a nicer gun. If so, I will be happy to take it and put it in with the others. Pretty kewl old gun.

Anybody know any fur freindly loads for it?

Gotta love the 30-30 lever gun. It just seems 'right' when you shoot it. [Cool]

Re; Fur Load. I don't know if they are still availble or not, but at one time there was a 30-30 round with a sabot & a .224 pill. As I recall, it was a screamer but strictly a one in the chamber & no more than one in the tube, deal.

If you try any of that 'Lever-loution ammo' please let us know what you think of it.

I would go with a Colt 1911 for personal defense. A Win Model 70 in 375 H&H for deer and larger game. Lastly, a German Gebrüder Merkel Drilling in 12x12x243 win for coyotes up to deer size game. I hope you don't call the Drilling a cheat. In fact, I would trade my Ar for a Drilling. Think about it!! One gun with two shotgun barrels and one rifle barrel. I think that would be the ultimate calling rifle.
