I've been out calling almost everyday since i got laid off for the winter and no call-ins yet. LOL I did happen to get one today just before dark as i was walking into a section to make a stand i spotted a coyote cross the highway headed in my direction.. I could hear it hollering take me! Take Me! LOL I waited for it to come closer when all of a sudden it hit the brakes and looked back to the west where my pickup was parked.. Yep i think he saw it and took off so i placed the cross-hairs up in front and followed through and squeezed the trigger on the 17 Pred. I could see in the scope that i hit the coyote high in the back leg but he still went down, i finished up with a second shot.. I don't need no stinking calls! i think they a naturaly attracted to me..LOL Will post pic. when the wife gets it down loaded.. ![[Razz]](tongue.gif)

TA......I pity the day you really piss her off, you'd be one helpless sonofabitch if she answered every one of your pleas with...."do it yourself"

Maybe it's just me, Tim, but why in the hell are you video taping that coyote when the right thing to do would be to maybe put it out of its misery? Sure, a dead coyote may not be as interesting to watch as one that's right next to dead, but geesh.
Again, maybe it's just me, but I bet not.

I usually let them bleed out rather than waste another bullet..
I had the camera mounted on the gun, did'nt have time to turn it on when i shot the first time.. I got it turned on as i walked up to coyote and then took a quick pic and then shut Cam off and finished it off. I did'nt think it was nesasary to show the finishing shot..
I don't see how it bothers some when they see a wounded coyote but think nothing of it when they just leave them lay and walk away.. [ December 07, 2008, 09:40 PM: Message edited by: TA17Rem ]

For what it's worth; My personal rule is that if the coyote can hold it's head up off of the ground.....shoot it again either with the same thing I shot it with in the first place or walk over & introduce it to Mr. Derringer.
I'm old & frail and look really goofy chasing 'dead' coyotes thru the sagebrush. I also believe that I will spend less time sewing a shot up pelt than I would tracking a pristine pelt. 'Dead' coyotes can run a long ways and not leave a lot of sign. Wastes calling time also.

Last year I chased/tracked a coyote for over an hour through 18" of snow that I kept post-holing through. I had hit him with the "not-so-dead coyote" shot and got right back on the call. About 30 seconds later he stands up and begins to limp off. I saw a second one coming in at about 200 away so I opted to stay on the call, since the wounded one had a broken front leg and I could see blood high on its shoulder. Plus the Dead Coyote is about $3.00 a shot. The other one never came in, and I couldn't get within 60 yards of the wounded one for a finishing shot, and I had been lazy and didn't carry a rifle to the stand. Finally, about a mile later he laid in a brush pile and I finished him off. It took me another 30 minutes to walk back to the truck. I didn't get to make any more stands that morning.
Since then, I shoot if they lift their head too. And use buckshot so I don't get buyer's remorse in the field again.
