Hey, great story Smithers! Thanks for sharing.

sort of a space cadet it appears...

It appears you guys had the same reaction as I? Bewilderment. LB

Who is the more decorated space cadet? The one that places the smiley or the four that respond to the smiley?
The board seemed in a bit of a lull for a few days so I thought some mental institution spice was in order.
Prophet of Coyote Death. JD, I think, referred to it as some person's name on another board, real or otherwise it is one sour name.

The primrose path is, indeed, lined with thorns...

What "other" boards? Who's reading other boards? And, why?

If true, that's quite a catchy handle; "Prophet of Coyote Death".

So who is it, somebody we know?

Good hunting. LB

edit: did I say catchy? I meant "corny".

Posted by JD (Member # 768) on February 17, 2008, 11:21 AM:

Yea, I referred to it in the thread where we were bitching about stuff we didn`t like. I saw that name several years ago someplace & it always stuck in my mind as a "corny" name, like a name someone would come up with to do some trolling.

On another more serious note, I did hear that Jane Fonda is getting married to a guy named Mike Hunt.

JD, at this juncture you may have to reveal your sources.
According to my moles the guy's name is actually, Howie Feltersnatch. [Wink]
Hanoi Jane. [Roll Eyes]

I've seen better looking blowup dolls.

No, not intimately, you sickos out there.

Thanks, Leonard.
Looking at that, I must admit, I look a tad effeminate with the earring and longish hair.
That is the endodontist's version of a ball gag around my mouth.

Pumpkin patch camo???

Kokopelli, that's my osage orange tree camo. [Big Grin]
What's camo anyway?

Posted by Cdog911 (Member # 7) on February 17, 2008, 05:02 PM:

(whispering) hey smithers, there ain't nothin' orange about an osage orange tree. You got green, or green. sorry dude.

Posted by smithers (Member # 646) on February 17, 2008, 05:55 PM:

It's the only tree I could think of with the word orange in it... There'd have to be a damn treeologist and botanist on the board. [Eek!]
A SHRUBBERY!!!!
You must return here with a shrubbery... or else you will never pass through this wood... alive.

Cdog, at this juncture I think it prudent that you reveal your treeology sources. Every Osage I have ever run into has not only been bright orange but damn near fluorescent. Green? GREEN!?

Is camo that stuff that makes you look like a pile of leaves?

if your osage trees are orange... you are taking some mighty fine pills, chewing catnip or token on some ground cowshit...

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 17, 2008, 07:19 PM:

The poor guy is just a midwesterner. Have pity. Maybe he thinks it's sort of descriptive, like "Palo Verde"?

Actually if you hold that osage in just the right light, it has an orange shine to it.

Sorry, didn't mean to defend him. LB

that which you speak of is called arbology, not treeology. LOL And I believe the osage orange, aka, hedge tree and bois 'darc, derives its name from the round almost orange-like appearance of the fruit the tree bears in fall. That fruit is a light lime green color, until it rots from constant freezing and thawing, at which time it turns a rancid shade of brownish yellow. Even the leaves simply turn brown and fall off. Never go orange. The wood is, itself, a lemon yellow until exposed to air, when it turns brown. Again, no orange. You'd better check your sources. LOL

I'm my source. It looks orange, to me.

where?

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 17, 2008, 09:47 PM:

Isn't it just like you people to call something orange when it appears to be green? I assume something as ugly wouldn't be edible, right?

I was refering to the finished wood. I have a Brass Rhino and it has a sort of "Cactus Cooler" color.

Good hunting. LB

PS if there was ever a topic we need not worry about staying on, thanks to smithers, this is it!

Actually, Leonard;

This thread started with a name but no topic,

We were all confused,

Then something about other boards & Jane Fonda's snatch,

A "Hey, I got my teeth knocked out again" photo of Smithers,

A "This is my waiting for the Great Pumpkin outfit" photo of Smithers,

A short study on Bois'Darc being used for calls instead of bows.

I think that we've stayed on topic pretty well. BARTENDER; Cactus Coolers all around!!!!

I know you were, Leonard. I was just funnin' with ya.

As far as edible, ... yech. I've seen where squirrels will eat them when other food sources dry up, and have known more than a couple cattle to have choked on them and died, but other than that, I wouldn't touch them. They look the same on the inside as they do on the outside.

Posted by smithers (Member # 646) on February 18, 2008, 06:45 AM:

You guys are insane.

Dear Professor of Treeology, next you'll scold me and tell me that white oaks ain't white and pin oaks don't grow pins.
A picture of a pear in a dish won't sway me from my knowledge that an Osage is ORANGE. [Mad]

An arborist is a guy that plants a tree once a year to make himself feel better.

Isn't Palo Verde an ancient Chinese saying for- 'add more lead'.

Literalists... [Eek!]

Posted by Kokopelli (Member # 633) on February 18, 2008, 07:06 AM:

I read somewhere that the Chinese were recalling a large shipment of lead. Seems it was contaminated with toys.

Oh, that fantastical photo is still floating around here in another thread, newbomb.

So, let me get this straight.

Either the French were involved with their incomprehensible language, or those 1ndians had been to Disneyland (in Orange County) and already knew what an orange looked like?

Out here they are smaller, grow on Sycamores and the kids call them Monkey Balls. There are only two possible origins.

Curious. LB

Posted by Cdog911 (Member # 7) on February 18, 2008, 01:33 PM:

There are lots things that grow smaller in Cali, Leonard. Must be the roids. And I don't mean as in "hemmer...". But, how can an osage orange fruit grow on a sycamore? Is that more of that liberal west coast styuff where the sycamore trees are out "experimenting" with hedge trees? [Eek!]

I think you'd better be checking your monkey balls for "backne". I'm pretty sure that there's a "Foundation" out there somewhere doing fundraisers to help cure "Monkey Balls Backne" somewhere. They're raising money for everything else. [Wink]

By golly, this thread may have actually side tracked itself into coming full circle by bringing Phrophet of Coyote Death and Monkey Balls Backne together. Wow!!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Okay, Lance. Tell me everything you know about California?

"Sackne"
[Big Grin] <-- an osage fruit.
[Cool] <-- osage wood.
California... [Confused]

A Valencia Orange
A Eureka Lemon
A Barsness Lime
A Wilson Golf Ball
A pair of Monkey Balls
and, an Osage Orange Brass Rhino

Good hunting. LB

Good thing I don't work and have nothing better to do!

This is what I have to look forward to in retirement? -

That's good stuff! The golfball tops it off well. It's even a Janitorial Staff Edition! [Big Grin]

Those arent monkey balls, they are porcupine balls. Straight off of a sweet gum tree, or pronounced 'sweegum', if you're an Okie.

It's all right up there (^) Leonard. There, and on talk radio. [Smile] Is my view skewed? Probably so. I do hear that the fruits and nuts represent a very small faction of the state's populous. But, we keep hearing about stupid regulations and laws that work their way toward the middle part of the country that originated at one coast or the other. On behalf of the people of the great state of Kansas, we don't care for those rules.

BTW, a hedge apple would appear to the far left, far larger than an orange, but slightly smaller than a grapefruit.

WTG, Leonard let the censors have it on that "other board". -

I read other boards for action like that! I posted twice on that board the first of which was deleted. -
I was never censored on the Black Board, although, I think I only posted 10 or 12 times, all in the political forum. I could probably go there now and get banned in less than an hour. [Big Grin]
