I did indeed venture down to old Arizonia and called in a bunch of those southwest cheewaawaa coyotees. It was a real pleasure meeting you Scott, Robb and Scottsdale. Not so much the Higgins crowd. I showed all of those Arizonia callers how to put fur on the ground, yessiree. Since there is a coyote behind every bush down there I just drove down the highway blowing my Cnonk Howler so the critters would look at me then I'd stick my head out the window. After all the cars that pulled over to the side left I drove back and picked up all the dead critters. Here is the pile I turned in.
As you can plainly see a couple of these little coyotees musta got a good look at me cause there tore up pretty bad.

i did see this guy down there.... he was raving on how well the minaksa caller did on those arizona coyotes.
Minaska called more coyotes to the bullet than all other callers combined...
As for the hat... it was a donation he won while there..and they forced him to wear it... [ January 19, 2008, 04:52 PM: Message edited by: Norm ]

On a serious note - Is that the smallest coyote ever in front of gorilla guy's left foot, or what?
And what is up with the one sporting the summer hair when the rest are fairly fuzzed up?

I was bigger than "Monkey Face" before I reached the legal age of 21. Judging from the photo, I have about 100 pounds of advantage. I think I already know who he is, but you won't hear it from him. [ January 23, 2008, 09:07 AM: Message edited by: Rich ]

This thread has Rich Higgins written all over it. He has talked his friend Scott Francom in to wearing the monkey mask. Anyone still wonder why I don't talk to Higgins anymore? Hey Scott F, I have your number now so do ya want me to call ya? [ January 23, 2008, 09:08 AM: Message edited by: Rich ]

Norm, Ned Burris, who won the coyote skinning contest in 9+, spent some hours skinning those animals. Eddie Murdoch, who was second in the contest with 12+, skinned well into the night. Some were "tore up too bad" to skin. Jeff Serdy, who won last year and judged this year, gave a demo and skinned one in 3+ without a mechanical aid. APC encourages our members to skin their animals and PVCI, under Ray Evridge's leadership has adopted certain "proof of Kill" that utilizes the whole animal. Because cats are bringing big bucks and fox are bringing $40+ I don't know any Az hunters that don't skin those.

Rich, I know many animals were skinned that is for sure and yes, all the cats were either skinned for sale or taxidermy...
It was a great weekend and turnout for sure..
Great to see you and Tyler there.
I had a great weekend... Justin with me when he got his first coyote called / killed. Always nice to help a new guy out.

Scott, Sorry to have caught you eating dinner. I know that you have been talked in to this mess by someone you think is a friend. At least you now know that I wasn't kidding about having your number huh? Good hunting, Rich

Scott, I see Rich C. put in a fair amount of effort to freely exchange knowledge on these forums. What could possibly be the motivation and/or reward for pulling his chain?
Just curious.

Smithers, in the midwest where I grew up, it was breakfast, dinner and supper..... so dinner was at 12 noon..... that is how someone could be eating dinner in the middle of the day..... when is lunch you ask.... usually between 3pm and 4pm or just before chore time was starting....

ScottF, third coyote? LOL! Quite a sense of humor you have there. Thinking before typing works well. Edit: Sorry newbomb, Jesus is not my co-pilot. Supper, dinner, brunch...
Actually Scut Farkus, some of us had to work today. I did go out tonight, after work, and managed to call a couple in. I wanted to take one and send ya the head, just for laughs. One I heard approach from the 7 o'clock position, quartering the wind, it stopped 35 yards out directly upwind of me and behind quite a bit of cover. I suspect from the tracks that it probably stared at me for a bit, took a leak and left. Male? Female? I'm not sure because I didn't taste the urine, this time. The other came in downwind at a trot and then hit high gear when it smelled my wallet.
I don't know why but let me tell you a secret, Farkus. Legend and lore has it that all Eastern coyotes are hard to call in. While somewhat true, due to densities and abundance of food, not all are as hard to call in as some would have you believe. Given the right time and circumstances, they are not easy, per say, but easier to call in. It should be said and is more appropriately put that they they can be harder to kill than their Western cousins. This has more so to do with cover than any other reason. If you locate an area that holds coyotes they will respond regularly to prey distress and howls in combination. Especially when you have a few days in the single digits. When the conditions are milder they certainly need more prodding but will respond if you make it interesting. Stand selection is probably thee number one thing to get correct if you will have any chance of killing an Eastern coyote. They can approach from anywhere and at any moment be gone. Or they can approach never be seen and gone. The coyotes around me love the thickest most gnarly patches of Earth you could imagine. So when you plan that predator hunting trip of a lifetime out East, refer back to this and tell 'em Large Marge sent ya. Ohhhhh, I hope that lucky number three will come someday. ![[Roll Eyes]](rolleyes.gif) [ January 23, 2008, 05:11 PM: Message edited by: smithers ]
