Late yesterday afternoon I went to a spot for the first time this year. The wind was right finally and so I took off. Started with the rabbit sounds and ended with some howls about 30 min. before dusk and then sat until dark. Nothing, except a few of my buddies corriente roping steers. On my traipse back to the truck in the dark I heard the coyotes howl about a half mile south, right at a spot I've been waiting to hunt when the conditions were right. I shot a nice cat there last year.
This morning at daylight I parked a quarter up the road and hiked over the hill, crossed the fence and walked about 200 yds off the road to a field with a few round bales that ran down to a creekbottom. I sat the foxpro out and sat 60 or so yds uphill and to the right of it. I squalled on my Burnham Brothers mini-blaster for about a full minute and then sat quiet. About three minutes after my last squall, a coyote comes out of a brushy draw to my left. It stops to look over the field and then trots up toward the foxpro. When it stops and looks to the right, I move my bipod and shoot the dog right in the chest. I gave a round of pup squeals and about five more minutes more of rabbit, but no other takers. It was a 25 lb male and appeared to be a yearling from last year. Fully furred and no exit wound. Made a nice pelt with only one tiny entrance hole. Just thought I would share a yarn.

Sounds like your hunt went better than mine.
I took one of my boys out, and we called in three coyotes in five stands. I was using a camera, he had a .223
First stand of the day, we he had a little elevation, and spotted the coyote at 300 yards zig zaging his way though the brush at a run for the call.
I started taking pictures of his response at about 125 yards, and I'm glad that I started then. No sooner than the shutter clicked and BOOM! In typical 19 year old fashion, the boy shot way too early.
The coyote ran out to about 250 then stopped broadside to look back. The kid was too busy saying "Oops", to even get the rifle to his shoulder.
We never saw another shootable coyote all morning.

Tim, you and I had the same type of luck. Frst stand of Christmas Eve morning we decide to move at the 20 minute mark. When I stand up I notice a coyote come over the top of the hill at about 300 yards. We sit back down and I get the camcorder up and running again. That one had busted us, but it kept looking to its left. I got on the call again and brought in a pair to about 80 yards. The brother in law who was on his stomach trying to get steadied for the long shot, twists to his right and lets a shot off. Miss. 25 yards later one stops again to a quick voice howl. Strike two. He tries a running shot and misses again. The next 20 seconds of video is R-rated for adult language. 4 more stands and no more were seen.
