First time out with my Krusty caller, first trip afield with new Foxpro, first four dead on one stand, highest kill percentage and most harvested in single outing.
My head is still spinning. Less than four hours of calling and my dad, my buddie and I called eleven coyote, killed the ten we shot at and finished the last stand with a coyote and a beautiful mature tom bobcat.
Will post some pics when I get back from deer hunting.

Spectacular! I've called 8 coyotes in a series of 6 stands. I won't testify as to how many killed though. I know many folks have had days like yours but I can only imagine....hmmm, AWESOME!!! [Smile]

Just got back from the deer hunting in the local desert. Got a nice three point! My buddy jumped a big four but didn't get a shot. We called in three more dogs out there and only got a couple running shots.
As soon as my partner e-mails me the pictures I will try to get them up. I might need to forward them to someone here to post them for me as I was unsuccessful in my last attempt.
Four hours of calling Smithers not four stands (your post above).

Mercer, I would bet there are a few guys that would like to hear how that first stand went down. Also, there are those that say we shouldn't kill a coyote because then a cat will be spooked. How did that deal play out?

Good hunting. LB

I just noticed that one of your pics, doesn't show up, maybe because it is portrait? I will try it again.

All morning we set up with Anthony to my right and my dad to my left 10-20 yds apart or so. Anthony got the most action and did better than usual with his over under savage .223\12 gauge. My dad ran my Bennelli and I had my .19-223. Shot six coy and the cat with shotgun. Just one of those days where everything went our way and with the open terrain once they got close it was over. Those coyotes must be struggling to make a living out there cause even the big mature dogs came in hard.
The best stand was when we went four for four. The first double came from the hard right past Anthony where he crumpled one and the other one took it in the face with a blast from my dad when it was 30 feet in front of me. We let the caller run and here came two more a couple minutes later. They were staggered and may not have been together. When the lead got to the caller my dad welcomed him with the Bennelli and I cart-wheeled the other one running away at about 80 yds or so with a nice rifle shot.
On the last stand we had barely got setteled in when a coyote came trotting up and stood on top of a sand dune at about max shotgun range. Anthony planted him and my dad and I sitting side by side couldn't keep it together any longer. Giddy with the days events we had a few quiet words and setteled back down. Another minute or three went by and Anthony let us know he had seen a bobcat coming. I looked in the direction he was indicating and at about 75 yds or so here come this cat trotting not sneaking in. I let my dad know and told him to keep his eye on a spot to the left of a group of three Joshua trees. Moments later the cat came into view and just stood there next to the Joshuas. I wispered to my dad to let it get a little closer.
I guess father knows best cause he dropped it like a bag of rocks. When it was all over the coy and the cat were lying within 30 feet of one another.
At days end we had to doubles, two singles and a quad. The only coyote that got away was on a stand where a staggered triple came in and Anthony got two with his 223 and the third got away. My dad and I had a bad angle and couldn't get a shot.
Lotta fun, I wanna to do it again.
I have killed a few cats and I wouldn't worry too much about a gun shot keeping one from coming in. It seems logical to think they would become suspicious and perhaps hang up or slow their approach at the sound of a gun shot but I don't think it's reality, at least not in my experience. I guess if my goal was strictly daytime cats I might hold my fire on a coyote for the best odds on a cat but that wouldn't be much fun.
One night last year I missed a cat that was sitting on a boulder at about a hundred and that silly thing kept coming until I took him with the shotgun at about thirty.

I never can figure out why guys (gals) never smile in pictures like that. Hell, I'm usually so excited I'm just happy I didn't shit my pants. That alone can bring a smile.
