I was surfing and came across this. I know it was not designed for this but I got a good laugh when I thought of somebody putting some of that good "coyote in a stick" on their arm pits. lol

it is the same as the mist, except in a solid state... try getting that to drift with the wind ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Well, that depends, do you mean scented before you put it on? I got this "olfactory image of Rich Higgins, 90 degrees, in a car, after 5 stands of 'misting'"

Heard a guy talk about working in a female deer urine collection job. He was employee of the month when he figured out they only wanted urine in the bottles.
How many of you are running around the woods with John Doe's scent?
How many of us take all the scent precautions and then fill up at the pump right before the stand? Anyone do any research on the Shell unleaded scent misting?

I was from NV. Got tired of living in the desert all summer away from the wife and kids. Too many long summers chasing jack rabbits, rattlesnakes and surveying millions of acres, no radio, no TV, no phone, no people, no automobiles and too many canned dinners. I was tired of coming home on the weekends only to mow the lawn and repair what damage was done to the house. Missed to many birthdays, baseball games and school plays to make it worth living out there anymore. I've seen in detail more than 2.5 million acres of some the most remote country in the US. Last year I was working the summit of White Rock and pulled a tendon off the ankle, hamburgerd two ligaments and chipped the bone. Hiked back 4 miles to the truck, 60 miles of some of the roughest two track road and 90 more miles to the nearest town with a hospitol. After that I decided to call it quits. Found a job in Idaho were I could be home every night and be just like everyone else. I've even put on 15 pounds. To be right honest. I spent so much time out there alone I've nearly lost the desire to hunt. Only went out three times after coyotes. Mainly because I was laid up for three months with ankle surgery. I've nearly had my fill of elk, antelope, mule deer, big horn sheep, chuckers and sage grouse to last the next 10 years. I tried spring Turkeys and all I could think about was getting home spending time with the kids and taking the wife to dinner and a movie. I'm thinking about buying a boat and let the kids learn to water ski, and put a little more time into practical shooting events. I imagine that come Sept. you'll find me under a bush smelling like Phillips 66.

I've heard the name. Something to do with geology. Other than that I don't know him personally. If this isn't the same Mr. Cress then I don't know him.
Since you brought up names, Bill Tillman? if you run accross any of his writings highly recommended reading. Most of his stuff is out of print. Interlibrary loans is about the only way to read some of that earlier print.
Anyway, gotta run. Headed to Jasper National Park (Canada) for a little recreation time, see you guys in about 10 days.

I field tested some of that Coyote on a Stick. Maybe I was using it wrong. I'd set up, call and call, and when I saw one headed downwind, I'd remove the top from the Stick and hurl it like a grenade toward where the coyote was fixin' to be. The sound of it bouncing across the ground scared every one of them off and I couldn't get a single decent shot. I'm going to "Stick" with misting.

I just wear my hunting clothes when i do my skinning. The coyotes seem to like it and the smell is'nt offensive to other people.

that is the advantage of hunting in the desert over the north country... natural camo.
Here, when we kill a coyote, we find the closest power line pole or mesquite tree; skin the coyote, and use some water (we always carry water here) to clean up, and off on our merry way...
Mr. Behle, killed him a nice deer in his natural camo here a couple years back.
Works real well as long as you sit still.

Barndog, that's him. I went to school with him. Last time I saw him was in remote northern Nevada, above Tuscarora, he was doing some survey work and I (of course) was hunting coyotes. Last I heard, his wife and kids were killed , I think in a car accident; from a mutual friend.
Good hunting. LB

WEstern Coyotes stink... Least all the ones I get to skin do.. I cant imagine wanting to spell like that on purpose LOL.. And fox scent OMG that smell can be horrid.. I swear it used to take several showers and a few days to get the reek of fox off me.. Now I have a special homemade soap that removes odors.. THAT has been a Godsend.. I suppose a cover scent helps but Ive never seen the need for it yet.. How many of you actually use cover scent when hunting? And if you do when your hunting fox do you use skunk scent? How about misting? Does anyone here use scent "lures" ? [ August 01, 2007, 11:32 AM: Message edited by: RoyalOaksTaxidermy ]

You know... cover scent.. Shampoo and body soap to help mask your stinky human smell.. Mists- sorta like that Coyote in a Stick only in a mister bottle.. Like spraying your decoy or the area with something tasty or another coyote...To make them coyotes think you are something you arent. And lures.. well guess that would fall under yummy smells.. Like bloody rabbit or something simular.. Or in the case of red fox- skunk.. Anything to trick the coyote into thinking something is there that really isnt. Predator Extreme magazine had an article about using "mist" .. Basically spraying some urine or bunny smell, or in the case of the article a load of all sorts of scents, bobcat, rabbit, coyote etc all in one, to help keep Mr Coyote around long enough to get a shot. Like when they circle downwind you use the mist to basically give them scents so they will stick around trying to figure out all the different smells. Sort of like sensory overload. It follows along the theory of you can trick their sight, and fool their ears, but their noses KNOW.. So misting helps to trick their noses. Anyway it was an interesting article ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Very good! But, perhaps you don't realize where the whole theory originated? But you got here, nonetheless.
I'm just pulling your leg; this is Magic Mist Central. Do a little reading on the back pages.
Good hunting. LB
