Shot a coyote going away, opened up the lower abdomen ,As I sighted to finish him, He reached back ,pulled the guts out ,swung them in the air and swallowed them down. I finished him,but I have never ever seen this behavoir. Was completely shocked.Anyone else seen any other form of shocking behavoir.

Yes i have seen this done on gut shot fox and coyotes, except i have never seen them eat their guts. Mostly they would just grab it with their teeth and pull at it and then continue to try and run.

6mm284,
Sounds like a mighty hungry coyote to me. Maybe one of those Iowa farm country coyotes? [Big Grin]

I've seen them pull the guts out with their teeth on numerous occasions but never actaully eat it. WOW!

I saw a coyote that probably would have been lost, one night, if he had not snagged fifteen feet of gut on a bush. Had one back leg elevated when I caught up with him, like he was taking a leak, or like when a dog is twisted up on a long leash.

But, on the other hand, I have seen coyotes bite at intestines before, but it is more normal to bite at the entrance side than where all the guts are hanging out, on the back side.

Good hunting. LB

Can't say I've ever had an evicerated coyote get away. Spin & grab, yes. They've ran, but never got far before I finished them off.

I've had a boatload of lung/liver, shot coyotes escape. Running hard @ that.

Thought I had seen about everything til this deal,.We have all seen them knip or bite at a wound, most generally fatal lung shots initially have this response, but until I saw this I had not even considered the possibilty. I remember saying to myself "Good god,I don't beleive this."Felt sorry for him for a moment,....well maybe for a few seconds!!!!Bang.
