Saturday the wind was really blowing. I made it out about 4pm and just hoped it would lay before dark. At about 5pm I made my way down a fence row that gave me a decent wind break and animals plenty of cover to sneak in. The wind was better but still gusting 15 to 25 out of the north.
I settled in just down from the corner fence post, and about 12 minutes after I started the J.S. 512 LR playing Half Grown Jackrabbit I see Mr. Bobcat slipping over a downed tree just across the opening from me. With in seconds he is sitting straight in front of the speaker 50 or so yards away about 10 yards back in the wood line. The 22-250 popped and he must have jumped 10 feet straight up. When he landed on the ground he was dead from the little Sierra that entered just between his front legs. No Exit....purrdy. I was sitting on the left, the Bobcat showed up straight across the opening just back from closest wooded corner. Tried 2 more stands before dark but no takers.....just to windy for coyotes.
Sunday morning I got up to a beautiful, frost covered, and still Texas day. I made it to the first stand at 6:45am nothing was moving. At around 7:40 I started stand #2 and sat with my back to a huge tree I was right in front of the tree on the left. and began playing Baby Woodpecker on my old J.S. almost immediatly I see a smallish dark colored female jump out into the lane and head my way. I paused the player but she just kept charging in at about 75 or so yards I barked and she came to a complete halt. She had bounced to a stop almost sideways but not exactly. The crosshairs looked good so I squeezed the shot off. The bullet caught her a little far back ( most likely driver error ) and exited her rump. My view from out in front of that tree. Coyote stopped just about where the shadows are in the picture. I took my 4-wheeler a half mile or so down the property and began the walk over a short roll I had discovered a year or so ago. The hill side was slightly over grown but I felt that if a coyote came in here I'd still be able to see him.....if a bobcat came out here he would most likely have been straight to my left.
I started out with the Half Grown Jackrabbit again. The call was about 40 yards out in the weeds and I was comfortable leaning back against a nice big oak. This is looking slightly up hill. Ten minutes....nothing....20 minutes....nothing about 5 minutes later I thought it was a bust. I had just decided to move when I see this yote come slipping down the hill right next to the wood line. I muted the call and with in seconds he came to a complete halt. I could not get a clean shot with out a big move so I just waited him out. A few minutes passed (most likely seconds) and then he made the mistake I was waiting for....he went boadside headed down wind to his right which made him cross straight out in front of me about 40 yards. I set the crosshairs just at the front of the shoulder as he was slipping by the 22-250 bucked and he dropped like a rock. The bullet smashed through both front shoulders and it was lights out. My equipment and the rewards. I made 5 more stands Sunday with only one more customer and he must have felt the price was just to high. He held up in a small stand of trees about 150 yards out. I may could have shot him at one point but I thought he was coming all the way. No such luck.......

Glad someone did some good. I made it about 20 miles and decided to turn the truck around Sat morning, wind was nearly blowing me off the road. Can't believe that antique caller still works

Tom I agree.....Saturday morning I had planned on hunting but when I walked out of the house the wind almost knocked me over. I was up, so I road the roads just looking for new areas. At about 9am I went home wind was bad here most of the day. Sunday morning was perfect.
Antique caller ?????? What you talking about? Thats a damn fine calling machine. Built like a tank and runs like a Cadillac. [ February 20, 2007, 06:29 AM: Message edited by: BigMo ]

Don't you know, we're in the digital age and those critters can tell the difference...
Just giving BigMo a hard time cause he knows the trouble I've had trying to get a new caller.
I do remember when I first got my 512 I carried it in a backpack, make that "cheap" backpack, anyway I climbed over a corner post and jumped off the top pipe. When I landed the straps broke on my backpack and down went the caller. Checked it out and it worked just fine, yep built like a tank and almost as heavy but I sure called alot of critters with them.
