I decided to go try 1 more time at a location I have had trouble making things work. The proberty is a 1/2 mile country road frontage and the access is in the center.
Over the last few years I have tried on several occasions to call here. There seems to always be a yote out on the property that I bump when entering. I either see them cross the road before I get to the gate or I see them cresting the hill on the neihbors property, headed for parts unknown.
I have tried parking just before the corner fence and walking in but I got the same results.
I decided to try a something new this morning and park my truck over a mile away and use the 4-wheeler to get within a 1/2 mile then walk in. Many ranchers in my area check cows and fence on 4-wheelers and seldom shoot so the sound is not a big threat.
I soon came to the corner fence and slipped onto the property. I just moved about 70 yards down the fence keeping the cedar line in front of me for cover and sat down. I watched quietly for 20 minutes just looking for the coyote that I had seen so many times after pulling through the gate. Nothing
I decided to slip about 40 yards further to my left and position my twister were it could be seen from the opposite cedar line.

I was hidden by this down cedar. This is looking to my left.

I made it back to my calling location and settled in to start. I gave it one high pitched lonesome howl with my RK Boyd howler and settled into wait.
I have taken the advice of others who are learning to howl and beleive my best bet is to only say a little. This helps prevent me from saying something I don't mean.
Howling is not very popular in my area but predator hunting is. This area is roadhunted pretty bad and with so many contest already having taken place most yotes are reluctant to believe the rabbit blues.
After a lifetime of silence around 10 minutes I spot Mr. Yote staring at my twister from across the pasture.

Coyote first appeared just to the right of the big cedar in the center. Roughly 200 yards from my stand

I moved my rifle into postion but after looking through the scope I decided to try and bring him closer with some painfull chirps on my Primos 10.
Boy did he like that....he was bouncing through the high grass like he was hooked on a string. Seconds later he was frozen staring at the decoy twister from 80 yards away. Because of the grass and the rolling nature of the land all that I can see is his head and neck but he was standing still so I lined up the shot and with the buck of the 22-250 he was DRT. The 55gr Sierra Game King had struck its mark and hit the coyote right in the old thinker.

Boyd howler, Texas Twister, Remington 22-250, Primos 10,
and a very smart old male coyote.

After passing up several opportunities to shoot a yote here from the truck I was finally standing over a big male. I knew I could figure out how to get this yote and feel good about doing it.
Well I figured it out and it feels good.

Good story Chris, glad you figured out another way.

Is that a McMillian on that 250? Sako pattern? I got another 204 in the SPS remington and it shoots decent enough I've been thinking about putting it in a good stock.

Tom
Yes its McMillan but its the Lazzoroni patern.
I like it alot with the 50mm scope. Cheek weld is a bit higher and it lines up well for me.
